this is my system profiler. not sure where it would be listed

go to USB, see if there’s a monome device listed

its not lited. if i plug in my MPD32 in the same port with the same usb cable. it is listed

try making sure the driver is loaded, in terminal:

sudo kextload -bundle-id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

this is insanely annoying, but perhaps try installing the FTDI drivers: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP/MacOSX/FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_4_2.dmg

and reboot your system.

again what we’re looking for is typing

ls -l /dev/tty.usb*

into a terminal and then getting back something like this:

crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 21, 108 May 10 13:43 /dev/tty.usbserial-m1000454

right now something is busted with your mac os

im trying this on 2 different MBP that are otherwise working perfectly, so I don’t think it’s an issue with the OS. It may just be a bad unit…

do you get a light blink on when you power it up?

no :frowning:
this is when its fully bus powered.
I do see that there is 9v power supply…do i need this to be plugged in? if so, ill feel dumb

if there’s a power hole in the side, yes, it needs 9V center positive. unless someone did a bus power upgrade and didn’t change the plate, which you could only see by opening it up.

with the 9v power in. its still not working.
The 9v does open this problem up to other variables, however. I’ll check them out later.
Really appeciate your help. I’ll try a couple new combinations and let you know where I end up. Thank you!

when you 9V power up you should see a blink.

Just for the info guys, my GS64, still won’t work after unplugging whilst my laptop is live, seems know body can understand why its happening but its the same on a mb pro 2015 and a newer MacBook, 2017 i believe, works when plugged from powered on, does not work when unplugged and replugged whilst laptops are are.
This is not a usb hub issue and most certainly not an issue with hardware.
My instinct is something with the serialOSC software. love to get this fixed or im afraid ill be selling my grid, as it hasn’t been used in months because of this

checking for people still having issues with 10.13.

if so, can you please upgrade to 10.13.4 (newest) and report back?

I still have the same problem, works from until unplugged and plugged back in whilst MacBook is on

can you confirm you are on 10.13.4?

Yes for sure on 10.13.4

10.13.4 + latest 128 works with serial osc 1.4 and default apple drivers (including hotswapping). 3rd-party driver mentioned here works as well but not hotswapped (only when grid is plugged in on start up)

EDIT: Also got terms, grainfields and re:mix up and running with ableton 10 on 10.13

That’s good to know, if would be great to know what difference an older GS64 has hardware wise than the newer 128. maybe the problem for me could be related to this?

Success!! I deleted a bunch of kext files in the library/extensions folder including an old lexicon one from an old audio interface, no idea what fix it, but I have hot swapping joy, extremely happy!

glad you fixed it, but ugh. not knowing the real fix is disappointing.

thanks @Alistair for your perseverance!
