I mean, in the name of patience and restraint, it’s better just to wait it out. But if you for some reason actually need it sooner, it looks like Control just has them in stock and could just put it in the mail to you by tomorrow. I’ve always had a really good experience with them.

Got mine today, haven’t had time to really dive in until just now. Pre-ordered from Control, they are the absolute best in the biz for modular in the US in my opinion.

As someone who lives in NYC, the shop itself is also a delight. Super privileged to have them by me and have an opportunity to fiddle around with modules before buying them. They’re also just so nice, knowledgeable, and huge modular fans.

Initial impressions, though only in mono. I spent about 1-1.5 hours manipulating a patch from last night, but using the Mimeophon instead of the Echophon - it’s not a replacement for the Echophon, but rather a future partner.

I think Mimeophon sounds great and is very versatile. It can be warmer and lusher than the other Make Noise DSP effects, but has a wild alien side as well. I tried it as a synth, delay, and looper. As a synth voice one could have instant houseplant, acid bass, or swarms. I had a lot of fun with both modulating rate when clocked and manipulating loops I had captured with the hold button.

Chiming in to to say I know people who work at both Perfect Circuit and Control Voltage, and 99% of the time when preorders aren’t shipping compared to other stores, it’s simply because they haven’t gotten their first shipments yet. So they have nothing to ship. I’d be curious to see if stores in the Midwest got their Mimeophons in after Control, but before PC/CV.

We gotta remember these things aren’t on the scale of a new Apple product or a video game release, so it’s a bit unreasonable to expect it to be everywhere day one.

But on the topic at hand: I’ve been thinking of getting a cool delay module with some I/O modules in a 4MS Pod as an alternative to getting something like a Volante or other powerful delay pedal. I wasn’t too sure if I would go through with it until Mimeophon was announced and we started hearing about its features. The last two videos with the DPO drone layers and the stereo use of skew, swap, etc has me quite convinced this module will work well in lots of sonic scenarios.

In fact, they put up two (2)!

Got in from Control last night - patched up something simple (DPO > Optomix > Simple pattern recorded to Morphagene > Mimeophon) to try and understand how it all works. Got some interesting feedback things going on. The Zones are intimidating, feels like they change everything, but the color coding helps know when it’s changing zones, if not yet which zone it is changing to. An amazing module though, feels like a terrific companion with Morphagene, bet one could do some amazing things with just those two.

First try with Karplus- pretty cool, much to learn though. With the regular delay zones I’m finding myself loving the brighter color more than I thought I would- adds a nice a hiss on to everything. :kissing_smiling_eyes:

edit: why no preview?

There’s no reverb on that?? Just Maths + Mimeophon??

Sounds great, btw…

Yep, the reverb is just Mimeo’s Halo parameter.

I followed up with Control Voltage and they just got tracking numbers from MN for the first shipment. They did expedite that delivery, so hopefully they get preorders shipped out shortly after receiving from MN. Sucks that it’s on a long weekend though, as that’ll add an extra day.

I think that idea would be a lot of fun, but just remember that those pods are hella shallow. I don’t think the mimeophone would fit in one of the regualar (non-“x”) ones, unless you used spacers (and I imagine that most I/O modules would need to be even deeper).

It might barely fit, pod 60 max module depth is 34.2mm and mimeophon is 30mm.

The intellijel palette would be another good case for this idea. It has a 1u row where you could put the I/O module. I’ve been thinking about putting a mimeophon in mine but I already have other plans for it…

The biggest issue with Perfect Circuit and the reason I will never do a pre-order with them anymore, is by default, they put “Arriving Soon” without any estimated ETA.

They do this literally months before the module arrives. So they take the money upfront, waaay before other shops do preorders. Both times I cancelled my order after waiting more than 2 months. Perfect Circle are great, but only for “In Stock” items only.

Here is a classic example of the game they play.

This is their LZX stock :

https://www.perfectcircuit.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lzx

“Arriving Soon” on many many items, already for months beforehand.

This is really when LZX stock will be shipped to them. Late September, October, November…

So that Visual Cortex module I was interested in “Arriving Soon” since July will not actually arrive until Mid October.

I called them out on this kind of stuff, but they still do it. They should be writing “Out of Stock”. If they put “Arriving Soon” on any item they should be putting an ETA before taking money. What they do when contacted by the preorder people is blame the manufacturer for late shipping…

“Arriving Soon” to most people would mean a week, a couple of weeks. To my eyes Perfect Circuit should be more upfront about ETA. They know ETA’s, but they are not transparent about sharing that info on the website, and with the customer, when they preorder. It allows them to take more preorder money much earlier than other suppliers.

The best company by far, that have dealt with preorders and buying modules in general are Control. They only start to take preorder money quite late in the day and they also put an eta to give you a rough idea of when they expect stuff.

Maybe the in-depth discussions re: merits of preordering at one place vs another would be better served in a different thread?

I already have a Magneto that covers some of the same ground, but after watching Loopop’s video, I feel like they are different enough that I would get a lot of mileage out of the two together! I used to use a Memory Man w/ Hazarai and an El Capistan together to cover totally different ground, and this is a more flexible version of the same idea.

I’m really stoked on the clips & videos trickling out that include Morphagene and QPAS! They seem to play wonderfully together, which is great since I decided on holding out for the complete Tape and Microsound Music Machine system.

I emailed Makenoise and they said it will be out late October, with more specific info like release date and price coming in about a month. Can’t wait! Already saving up.

First play with it tonight. Thing sounds great. The character reminds me of an early digital rack multi-fx unit, particularly with color farther left. Although the resolution of the zone switching and skew is way beyond an old rack unit.

I like the halo echo verb too. Even a basic patch became pretty evil.

Regarding shipping and preorders, Make Noise simply ships orders out in the order that they were received. (After invoices are paid, of course.) Not knowing how various retailers’ ordering and accounting departments work, I can only assume that places like Control and Synth City getting theirs before Perfect Circuit and Control Voltage has to do with a mix of getting their orders in later down the line and UPS transit times taking a bit longer to get to the west coast.

Nope, Mimeophon is 30mm + cable, just like Morphagene. I messaged Make noise about it and they confirmed it will not fit in the regular 4ms Pods. (Unless you use spacers)
They are closer to 32mm deep - I have a Pod60, and I had to use two plastic washers to fit SSF URA in (which is 33mm deep).

Yep, it doesn’t fit in the classic, thinner pods. Thing is an absolute blast though, very versatile and hands on. Zones is a much more interesting concept / area to modulate than I expected it to be.
