You’re right, of course. My reading comprehension was not up to speed for the morning, I missed the part about the Function entirely!

What is it about the DPO that would make you want to swap it out? Just a matter of preferring the sound of other options?

Yup, that’s it. In a Shared System I might give it another chance first, but I like TZFM a lot, and never quite gelled with the DPO’s wavefolder (or 0-Coast’s) as much as some others.

Finally got the 7U Steel case with CV bus yesterday, it feels like a really good build. Yet I got some drama right in the beginning, I put my Trogotronic M277 to the case (which is powered via auxiliary power supply) and when I put it in the wall the supply also turned on my Xaoc modules (which hasn’t happened before) after which the M277 put out a nice smoke puff and self-destroyed.

At first I thought I’d broken all my modules but I was quite relieved that it was just the Trogo I lost. Still a bummer though :expressionless:

Have to agree with all the above suggestions if you’re planning a hybrid shared system with Mannequins modules. I ended up going with a Falistri over Maths - and while it has many similar functions and I love it, I still think Maths offers more for its size than any function generator mainly because of the mixing / attenuverting as you said. Also Mangrove and Godspeed as @Starthief suggested - with a Cold Mac between them is an extremely fun setup, that’s my current “complex oscillator” and I haven’t missed my DPO at all, though that’s a factor of preference so ymmv. Either way it sounds like a solid lineup and I’m sure you’ll have more than enough ground to cover to keep you busy for a long time.

Something new, mayhaps? :mag_right:

Would be curious to hear how Mangrove + Godspeed + Cold Mac sounds!

There is a certain magic in the act of patching a modular synthesizer, a special joy to be had in building up complex structures from the relationships between a few simple elements.

So, Make Noise introduced this new 0-Control sequencer, today. There’s a bunch of media, but I most recommend Loopop’s demo/review and the Sonic State interview with Tony.

It’s basically the Pressure Points X 2 + Brains, in a slim tabletop box that matches the 0-Coast, with a few augmentations and tweaks, at a price much lower ($399) than buying the Pressure Points X 2 + Brains modules (~$550 total). 0-Control is not a module and cannot be rack mounted.

The main added feature is a built in clock, which can be modulated per-step. (Precisely—exactly—what is going on with this variable clocking hasn’t been discussed, to my knowledge, but it clearly works nicely for variable step length/groove.) The 0-Control entirely analog.

The Serge TKB lineage of the Pressure Points is just as strong with 0-Control. The variable step length addition is Buchla MARF-inspired.

The whole product is very Make Noise in appearance and function. I think it’s pretty neat.

I was looking to put together a 2x Pressure Points skiff but the 0-Ctrl is making me reconsider. Not super interested in the clocked sequencing part, but I am totally down for a pressure sensitive touch controller.

I do have a few questions about Pressure Points if anybody can help me out:

Are the gate and pressure CV outputs polyphonic? As in, if I press on multiple stages at once will I get gates and CV out of each output or will I only get the currently selected stage’s output?

If I connect 2 Pressure Points together but don’t adjust the jumpers will it still function as two separate modules? I was thinking about using something like the Ladik Switches module to toggle the connection so I could go between 1x8 and 2x4 but I am a bit concerned this could potentially damage things.

Pretty cool. If I didn’t already have 2xPP + Brains I’d prefer this instead.

With Pressure Points you can only select one stage at a time. Pretty sure this is true of 0-Control as well from what I can tell. That said, keep in mind that selecting a single stage of PP gives you access to five separate, simultaneous control voltages. So if polyphony is your deal, PP is more than capable.

Was hoping this could be case mountable because my Pressure Points are a little aloof at the moment (lights don’t track the actual active stage, starting points vary from time to time, voltages drift a bit). This unit is very interesting but will definitely make fixing my PP+Brains a less attractive option. Might have to look at an old Rene.

Just adding that you can use multiple pressure outputs at once, just not multiple stages/gates. I’ll often use multiple pressure outputs in combination with slew limiters to open different VCAs.

Thanks! I was kind of hoping that you couldn’t get multiple simultaneous pressure outputs because now I actually need to make a decision about whether that is worth the extra cost :frowning:

we’re yet to see about that

What do you think are the chances of them bringing this new design into a smaller more direct pressure points update? 24hp so it could be swapped with PP+Brains, 4/5 steps, smaller tempi style buttons for the play/direction/interupt pads, no internal clock or attenuators as people would likely have other modules for that. It wouldn’t actually add a huge amount of functionality over PP+Brains, but I’m guessing the new touch pads are the same as the Rene 2 which seem to be a lot more reliable across different users and power supplies.

Pretty soon after the 0-Coast they released the Contour and Dynamix which were circuits from the 0-Coast so it’s possible. Although perhaps a Pressure Points V2 would be too much of a direct competition to their own product.

I have always policed my modular spending by limiting myself to a specific case size, so standalone devices like this feel like cheating!

It wouldn’t shock me to see some updates filter out, although it should be noted that the Dynamix was retired pretty soon after release, so there was probably some lessons learned on their end about piecing out the 0-coast into smaller modules.

I find myself kinda wishing that the 0-control had additional pressure pads or something that could modify the sequencer. The whole easel metaphor feels a little dulled when so much of the variety you can get from the easel is the combo of the small sequencer, the keyboard, and the additional adjustable voltage pressure pads. Granted, the 0-coast has only one full voice (even if you can use the slope generator as a second sound source), but it feels like the combo of the two instruments won’t stretch quite as far as it could.

Exactly. That was also said about the 0-coast, which turned out to be rackable and Euro powered if you just put some little effort into it and are willing to hide the power entry behind a blind panel.

That’s why I’m surprised that the Pittsburgh KB-1 isn’t more popular, it offers all three of the those in a euro format plus two additional trigger/gate/latching gate pads.
