at the qpas event tony made it seem like changes to the shared system were pretty much off the table - basically it’s really done and tempi was the last addition. He hinted if qpas was part of a system it would be a new thing - which clearly ended up being the microsound system. It would be interesting if another larger stereo system were in the works too and what that would look like, or if the next step would be another different skiff system…

I’d love to see them come up with a 14 hp folding case!

Is there any info yet about the contents of the full microsound system?

Plus a 4hp mult. I think I remember reading that the xpan wasn’t officially part of the system, that 10hp would be free to fill as you please, but I don’t recall where I read that. Either way, the xpan makes perfect sense. & If you use stackables, a Worng LRMSMSLR would serve that system nicely (can you tell I’ve thought about this too much?)

well, I’m already halfway there, if I bust up my Shared System… Hmmm…

this an interesting question- Make Noise’s current lineup I think has a ton of staying power, but what might things look like in 5 years,10 years? Are there going to be 50 different make noise modules?

With regards to what’s next, I’d love to see some kind of dedicated saturation/distortion/compression module. Surely a stereo reverb is put out eventually. I think a new oscillator would be great as well- a DPO mk2 for example.

wow a soundhack standalone device would be so fun :open_mouth:

basically an instabuy for me. i think stand-alone/tabletop synths and instruments are great products and there’s a lot of bandwidth for what works in that realm.

Things I’d like to see from Make Noise in the years to come:

  • soundhack Digital Function Generator—form-wise, somewhere between MATHS and René v2; function-wise, maybe something like the MARF or Zadar ; fully compatible with the Select Bus standard for saving and recalling functions
  • Harmonic Oscillator—something smaller than the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, arranged in a circle with René-style clear knobs for scanning between harmonics and a larger knob in the center for the base frequency; I’ve crudely sketched something out like this already
  • a new take on the RxMx concept—perhaps with a Dynamix-style vactrol-free design in a smaller form factor; or maybe something roughly the same size but designed with stereo applications in mind (imagining a stereo exquisite corpse with independent movement for L and R channels)

Something Make Noise doesn’t really have is a trigger/gate sequencer.

I could see a Rene-like grid of touchpads and then multiple paths/channels that move through the grid in various ways (maybe tracing paths manually?)

Or something that generates rhythms from interacting analog LFOs and PLLs?

I think they should get a great big bag, fill it with money, and use it to lure Meng Qi into their shop and see what happens.

I’d put money in that bag.

seems unlikely tony would bring in anyone to design analog circuits… as fun as the crossover event would be :stuck_out_tongue:

A few things that could be neat might be MN takes on

  • a seq and/or voltage addressed switch
  • more analog logic beyond maths, threshold detection, etc, akin to Plog or Mystic Circuits Ana
  • maybe connected to that, a take on probability (Skipmin, Branches)
  • a matrix mixer
  • all of that in one weird module

Some kind of switch is the same thought that I was gonna add to this thread.

But then @nutritionalzero suggested the “digital-coast” and now I have GAS for a synthesizer that doesn’t even exist…

Hey all, I have a somewhat silly question: I’m currently in the process of piecing together a Shared System, and I have almost everything lined up, but I’m on the fence about whether I should to Erbe-verb or Mimeophon.

Mimeophon seems like the obvious choice, but there’s something so pure and alluring about the Erbe that makes me really curious. Also it will fit aesthetically with my silver-panel-top-row. Mimeo is making waves, and I’ve dug every sound I’ve heard so far, but it’s also the new kid on the block, so I’m trying not to let gas get to me. After all, swapping to a single manufacturer system is supposed to quell gas!

Anyway I think know what I would do, so I’d like to know what you would do?

I have a b&g system I am expanding. I am keeping both Erbeverb and echophon for my dpo and telharmonic. However I use mimeophon with morphogene. I think it really helps to have a different effect for each. Tonally and for performance. However it does take up a lot of hp.

Yeah I’m contemplating keeping it straight up SS and populating my skiff with all the new stereo modules coming out :sunglasses:

I’m thinking of getting a MN skiff to move the controllers and Select Bus modules from the SS into…

Then I can move some newer ones into the free space…
