I recently got a second SQ-1. It’s fun that they can be used in sync or not…

They are built like tanks and are very useful for the money and size…

I have a cv bus case, which I adore, but I just hit a power snag - I’d like to add the Expert Sleepers ES-9, which is a big power draw, 450 / 130 mA +/-. This design:

Needs 1,583 mA +12V 708 mA -12V (according to modulargrid) but the power bus on the case only gives 1.4 amps @ 12Vdc, 1A @ -12Vdc, 1A @ +5Vdc.

You can see from the picture my solution is to add a row power (which I already own, so no big deal) but I’m curious if anyone has replaced the power bus in the case with something more powerful?

This isn’t really a necessary thing, but the idea of two power plugs in the case makes me feel weird.

If you’re curious, this is my actual solution short of replacing the power bus…the bottom row is an unpowered MN skiff.

It works just fine, but takes up a good amount of desk space. I thought about putting the ES-9 in a 4ms pod, but it’s too deep. I’d love to have the ES-9 in it’s own pod, that would be really awesome.

Also - hope this is ok in this thread, it’s sort of about the cv bus case design, usability, theory and philosophy, but most likely veers towards etc.

EDIT: A thread on MW suggests replacing it with the Intellijel TPS 80, apparently it’s even compatible with the power supply jack and switch port on the case. That’s good to know. The price tag ($239) is enough that I’ll stick with my too much desk-space solution for now, but…good to know. Future generations of CV Bus case owners take note!

The TPS-80 is great. I’ve acquired two recently, and had no trouble installing them. Would definitely solve your issue.

Would you mind sharing link to the Muffwiggler thread discussing this power supply replacement? Thanks in advance!

This is wonderful news! I plan on building up another case next year, and I’d love to get another MN 7u, but was leery on power. It’s obviously not an issue on my Shared System (thanks 20hp modules!). I wonder if you could special order one direct…

29 chars of thanks @cmcavoy!

Never heard of these guys but this looks great!

The Metamorph is super nice. @oot tipped me on it and I love what it can achieve. Thanks again! Very similar but to me crucially different offering than the PP&B combo. I use it a lot for long gliding and CV controllable preset morphing.

At the 10th anniversary thing last year, there was a display of different versions of the shared system…any idea if that’s documented anywhere? I like history.

I think this may have been the original Shared System?

And then they added the Erbe-Verb.
And then they created the Black & Gold version.
And then they added Tempi and swapped in Rene 2. (Don’t recall if that was simultaneous.)

This is totally aesthetic, but I wonder why Make Noise only has certain modules in black and certain ones in silver. I wish they were all black or all silver. It would look much cooler.

I bought a used Shared System with the v1 Wogglebug and MMG, but don’t know if the latter was an add-on by the original owner. All of the other modules are the same as the photo above though.

There was also the Shared System with the tan Monorocket cases. No idea if those were available commercially or not!

Looks like they might have been, at least briefly. I did a little poking and found this one, with the original Wogglebug, original ModDemix, and the second rev Maths:

I was just about to post another version of this I found online, with a blue-and-white color overlay, a White René, and no Mult module.

Surachai’s preview post from 2013 also shows the setup being powered by one of the old power supply modules that Make Noise used to sell, with the added bonus of patch notes for his track for anyone who dares to try to replicate it:

Awesome!

Looking at these old Shared Systems really drives home how timeless the MN stuff is. If I had to get rid of my “2020” Shared System and replace it with a 2011(?) one, I would be perfectly content!

Whenever i got my SS, it came with the CV bus, but old wogglebug, new moddemix, and I added the ErbeVerb. Still have all the modules, though have come close to selling the Phonogene on occasions.

That’s part of why I was asking…I probably need to sell some excess modules and was thinking about going back a generation on the shared system and selling my 2019 / 2020 modules as they’ll go quicker and at nearly full price. I never had an issue with the mono design of the previous shared system, and I sometimes miss Rene 1.

I know modular is all about making your own instrument, etc etc, but I really enjoy Makenoise designs, I picture having this shared system in my retirement community of choice, freaking out the squares way into my 90’s.

I have replaced the Phonogene w/ Morphagene and Echophon w/ Mimeophon and miss both on occasion, but the Phonogene in particular. It is unwieldy compared to the Morphagene (which I initially didn’t like, but now love), but it has that special something.
