Hello All,

I have had the opportunity to have a play with a Make Noise Rene’ module with a friend’s modular rig and I was really fascinated by teh playability and the possibility of creating complex patterns together with the possibility of sending gate meassages to drum module.

The rhythm and melodies derived from just one module were very interesting in my view.

Anyway, is there any monome app that simulates this?

I have managed to do something similar with polygome by working on the gomenizer but I realise I cannot change the notes.
At the moment I am missing knowledge of any old patch.

Anyone any idea?

no a replica of rené, but somehow better and somehow worst.

I am doing a little research in the meantime and something similar can be done with decisions but still too fiddly.

Here it is : Renome, M4L only (for now)

i am not totally sure i should share it as it’s been tailored for a very specific performance of mine. The values are supposed to be input by a midi controller (i use a Midifighter Twister, and this gives a real plus) Anyway.

It works on a 128, but you can run two of them on a 256, by selecting the Top/Bottom menu.
Put the RenéMaster anywhere.
Put one or two RenéMonomeSat 0.12 in MIDI tracks, depending on if you use a single (128) or two sequencers (256).

CONTROLS :

  • top right 4x4 square : René.
  • top left button : randomize values
  • top row 4-12 : sequencer rate (division) : one button lit for normal values, two adjacent buttons for ternary beats.
  • 2nd row : 1-12 are the note range. Hold a key and press another one to define.
  • 3rd and 4rth row 2 first buttons : directions for X and Y.
  • 5th row : playhead a la mlr (allows inner loops) for the TRIGGER SEQUENCER.
  • 6th row : Reset triggers : will reset to the last touched state.
  • 7th row : Y trigger sequencer
  • 8th row : X trigger sequencer.
  • MIDI notes (coming in the track) : sets the quantizer’s notes : notes triggered quickly together will form chords.

Also on the device you’ve got choice for synced/unsynced sequencers and X/Y probabilities.

This probably has some bugs but i’ve been rocking this beast on stage with any trouble and it is great fun.
Known bugs (?, i need to check) :
range is not displayed when you load the device, you’ve got to chose it first.
very first Y gate is missed. i think.
some occasional weirdness choosing the note range.

I will have a go in the weekend.
I only have a 64 but if this thing works well I might think of building a 128!!!

I do not have max4live here at the moment but I assume the following:

Rene master is the rene algorithm
Rene monome sat is the monome interface

Am I right?

Maybe I can have a go and try to adapt to 64…if it is open and I am allowed to do this.

Not really.
RenéMaster just collects all the presses/leds from the 1 or 2 RenéSats.
Feel free to do whatever you want with it ! But i’m far from being the tidiest patcher…

I wanted to buy the mother 32 but it seems my 64 is about to go to leave space for a 128…I knew I should have done this some time ago…

orca has some similarities to how rene works. not an app though, you’ll need a white whale module (and yeah, doesn’t work well with a 64, you’ll need a 128 or an arc):

Given my current budget, I am staying away from the eurorack habit…but you never know :blush:

I will probably start with buying a 128 and I will go from there

Can you explain what you’re doing so i can help you ? You’re using M4L, right ? Max 7 ?
Any message in the max window ? (i am thinking that i might use an old version of serialosc, and not the one provided in max 7). I’ll freeze the device and repost.
