Well I stay in Europe so guess there is nothing much they could do - tax, customs shipping etc… but thank you… anyways I like my Rene v1 and still have to learn and get deeper to it

The classic Rene is more than enough for a small setup like the System Cartesian, even if they’ve recently changed it to include the updated Rene. Rene v2 was definitely made with the Shared System and/or other larger modular setups in mind.

Haven’t gotten my hands on the new Rene yet, but they are seeming like almost different modules. A huge difference, and one which I might not be looking forward to on Rene 2 is Rene 1’s ‘what you see is what you get’-ness of the values on the encoders.

I haven’t seen this explained, the 3rd dimension is it just three layers? Not sure if that makes sense let me elaborate.

From everything I see it looks like each step, a coordinate on the x and y, has a color. It looks like there are only three colors. My mental model pictures this as three layers of the original René.

@soggybag There are 3 2D sequences, a snake based on the x clock(red lights), a snake based on the y clock(green lights), and a cartesian sequence based on both clocks(yellow lights). The 3rd dimension Z is morphing or switching between presets of the three sequences.

Thanks for clarifying. This is what I pictured. Can they all three run at the same time?

Yes, all three sequences run simultaneously, with independent settings.

I like most of the changes but am struggling with the omission of the logic options, which for me were core to how I used the MKI. X and Y make sense but I’m rather bereft that C does not retain the logic decisions of its predecessor.

Is anyone finding cool ways to use the mk i and mk ii together?

To those that used the new René together with Tempi: Would you say that the Tempi integration is a huge advantage over using René with a different clock devider (e.g. Pam’s New Workout)?

I’m going to try making a video with both of them once our order of the new Renés arrives at the shop.

The advantages of Tempi are:

  • Changing the current Bank/State
  • Multi-Pasting or Meshing States
  • Storing States

There’s no gate advantage or disadvantage when using Pam’s instead, but you have a lot more things to control with Tempi on the latest firmware.

I still have to update my Tempi to the latest firmware, but if anyone was on the fence about Rene2 I wouldn’t be. I never had a Rene1 but this is the kind of sequencer I’ve wanted for a while. I had a 2x Pressure Points + Brains setup in the past, and while I never had any outright problems with the touch controls then, it’s clear the touch controls are much faster now.

I am wondering if anyone can help me: anytime I save the Rene manual a lot of the embedded images within the manual are not saved. When I open it on my computer, I cannot see some of the diagrams, illustrations, etc. For example, on page 14 the CV Programming Grid and the Page Programming Grid illustrations do not show after save.

Is anyone else having this problem? I’ve tried on 3 different computers (all Macs) and my iPhone (saving to dropbox and google drive) and each time a few of the images within the PDF fail to save.

If anyone can help, I’d appreciate it. I just want a manual that has all the illustrations embedded

renemanual.pdf (2.4 MB)

Here you go

Still didn’t work

I’m actually getting the same, might be worth telling them?

I can see all of the images, running OSX 10.13.6 and viewing the PDF in Adobe Reader v2019.008.20074.

That’s a good point. In mac preview some images are missing, opening with chrome it works

Yeah, chrome works, but Mac Preview doesn’t, dropbox doesn’t, and Google Drive doesn’t. I usually have my manuals for my modules on my phone so if I need to look something up, I can access it right then and there

Oh well, thanks for trying guys.

I tried opening it in Acrobat and exporting, but it still doesn’t work. I tried exporting it as a Word document and then importing it to export to a PDF and that didn’t work. I tried printing it to save it as a PDF and that’s didn’t work either. I’m going to email Make Noise and let them know.
