@nurse_plissken, i just pushed the CC-able scrubbing update. update your script and each voice will have a pos parameter that is midi assignable.

this seems pretty clear. i’ll follow up on GH.

a quick test seems like it’s working great, I’ll have to mess with it more later tonight. Thanks so much!

I couldn’t get it to update over maiden, though. But my fates has been having some funky issues that I’ve been troubleshooting lately so maybe it’s just mine.

So, an interesting event: I got this norns.polll callback issue and out of curiousity, used Maiden to ;restart

The norns has now rebooted with a Supercollider fail and no ability to connect to maiden. A manual power down fixed the issue.

call it ā€œgrass is greenerā€ syndrome. but what is your op-1 pumping into?

lurv mangl!

Eric

Glad you’re liking it!

If you’re referring to the video up top, it’s going op-1 -> oto bam -> norns

Finally getting an opportunity to explore mangl and I’m finding that, no matter what source audio I record to tape - even with considerable headroom - the playback through mangl sounds like it is going through a hot tube overdrive/distortion. I’ve checked in/out levels, compared the audio direct from tape, turned off reverb, played back at 100 speed, and mangl is definitely creating its own Sunn O))) effect on everything below ~1k.

I’m reasonably experienced with granular synthesis, yet cannot for the life of me figure this one out. Now, if I was trying to be a doom metal cover band, this would be awesome…sadly, I’m not.

helllllllp…

that definitely isn’t intentional!

i’ve heard similar reports before, but haven’t been able to figure it out as of yet.

would you mind sharing a clip of the effect/distortion/thing?

Here is simple acoustic piano file with three passes, all playing at original speed and pitch: direct out of tape, then angl, and finally mangl:

mangl test.aif (9.6 MB)

wowee, that’s very noticeable! my apologies  could you send/dm me the file that you used? i’d like to load it on my machine.

No prob…just dm’d the file

That’s what that is!!! I’ve had that happen once or twice! Oh jeez! Well, looking forward to seeing if we can get that squared away.

Still amazing though!

I’ve had the same kinds of distortion as well. It seems like a headroom issue but I’m sorry I haven’t been able to explore the code and be any more useful than that. I can probably send examples as well if needed though. And thanks for investigating!

I also had that issue but thought it was related to some default delay settings, might be wrong and also, sorry but I was not systematic about it, thought my samples were off. Can try again and see what Maiden says, if anything.

I also tried adjusting the delays, to no avail. Looking at the recorded output, I’m not seeing an obvious brickwall waveform one would expect from headroom issues…the issue is perplexing.

It is perplexing indeed! I just got around to loading up that file, and the distortion is there in mangl, but not when I play it from tape… I am going to guess that i’ve mucked something up in the engine and start looking there. Hopefully I’ll have a fix soon

edit: @mmml, that was much easier to spot than I thought it would be lol I went a bit crazy with the softclipping  update your mangl and it should be good to go!

Hey @Justmat Thanks very much for looking into this. I’m curious to hear reports back from others…I just updated mangl (actually, deleted and re-installed mangl fresh with a restart) and I would say the same heavy doom, metal brass-y distortion issue persists on the midrange with every audio file I load from tape - with the new addition of some random dry audio crackle (ie crackle is not going through the reverb/delay signal path, and I’ve confirmed there is no headroom issue on my source or output). Comparing the same files played on tape, and on angl, and they sound as they should over on those. I will do some more testing with a range of source material.

That is strange, does the file that you sent me still distort? It plays clearly for me…

Are you on a factory Norns? Latest update? Etc? Just to be sure

Yep, factory norns, latest os (200712), and I am fairly positive the latest mangl as I reloaded maiden and installed fresh…but I will test further in the morning!

I’ll keep looking as well! We’ll figure it out
