Hi!

I think that something wrong is going on with my JF. No matter what I do with the knobs or the switches, all the lights are solid on in both Sound and and Shape modes. I’ve tried switching on the case with the knobs in reset and calibrate position but nothing. I’m getting sound from it even controlled by the Teletype, but the sound is a little distorted. Any ideas on what could be the problem? I have the gold version, BTW.

probably a silly question, but have you tried switching out of just friends mode on the teletype? I have had occasional weird locked notes when playing with i2c modes from ansible. You could also try removing the i2c bus cables from the back.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Send us an email: service@whimsicalraps.com

I just sent you an email. Thanks a lot!

I have a question regarding the Mix output. I don’t think I’d ever used it before, instead I would send tones out of their respective outputs. But today, because of a lack of mixer inputs I figured I’d use the Mix output. What I get out isn’t what I was expecting however.

I have the sound set to be a simple sine wave with Intone set to make a chord but when I listen to the Mix output it sounds very distorted / modulated and not at all like the version I get if I run all outputs into a mixer together.

Is this as expected?

There is some sort of soft clipping (tahn?) on the mix output, yes. Unless it’s something drastic you’re Just Friends is probably fine :+1:

Hi!

I’m still having problems with my Just Friend. Trent from Whimsical Raps wrote me about the -12V fuse that could probably wrong. I was willing to do it by myself to avoid send it abroad for repair, so 2 weeks ago I wrote them again for the instructions on what fuse to buy and how to replace it but I haven’t received any answer yet. Also wrote to Schneidersladen (where I bought it) and same thing … No answer.

Does anybody know how to do it and what fuse do I need? I’ve seen other people in this forum with the same issue …

There’s info on fuses for the Mangrove/3 Sister here. Not sure where they are on Just Friends - better to ask @Galapagoose . I had fuses replaced on 2 Mangroves by a friend who does SMT soldering.

I believe it’s not a fuse but rather a current-limiting resistor that fixes the Run jack problem.

please come back with upates when you find an answer, i’m really interested. working on http://delicerecipes.com/ project. thanks btw, i have a similar problem too.

Well, the answer didn’t arrived yet and I’m afraid that it’s not going to be an easy path … I contacted Trent and he told me to ask Egor (Schneidersladen) for the fuse replacement service. I was willing to do it by myself, but Egor told me that it is not such an easy solution, and he is facing several damaged JF’s that have a more complex problem. He is trying to contact Trent but no luck yet. I guess Trent must be busy right now with something as he had aswered in this forum or by mail in the past. This is starting to remind me what happened to me several years ago with the Audio Damage ADM23 reverb module, when I wrote more than 10 mails to Mr Chris Randall about the clicks and pops of this +500$ module. He answered my first mail with a “known issue and a soon firmware update” and then we never knew anything about him. Hope this is not the case and we can find a solution soon as I really like the module, but I’m a bit concerned about reliability and after sales service … The module stoped working from one day to another even without moving the case …

@Cromatica45 Just emailed you. Apologies for my delay.

@Dins1 Please email us to confirm it’s the same problem. There are a number of similar symptoms that have very different causes.

Finally the replacement fuses from MOUSER arrived, and I’ve managed to solder them without problems … The module has come back to life, so problem solved …
Now I have 9 extra fuses (I ordered 10 of them) for future replacements …

Hi, I’m buying a JF from Control Voltage. Did anyone who bought from the last batch of Jf run into any issues like the one @Cromatica45 had? A friend is bringing the module with him from the US and it would be super troublesome having to send it back. Are any possible issues simple enough that I could have someone here fix them? I guess I’m trying to be little bit at ease with the purchase. Any input is appreciated.

I have 3 and none have required service. Ymmv

Well, as you know I had one issue with it, but the repair was very simple to do it by myself … Now the module is working as expected without any problems …

Well, I guess I’m doing it. I was going for a second Mangrove, but I thought I could try something different and I can always get that complementary Mangrove later. My biggest fear isn’t a technical issue, but finding myself with a teletype un a few months… and having to learn stuff! But that too can be an opportunity. Thanks all for your replies, as always.

Just Friends is what drew me to pick up a Teletype, which in turn made me get a Norns Shield. The rabbit hole is real, but it’s lovely down here. Just Friends is fantastic without a TT as well though, I don’t think you will regret it.
