I don’t think that’s normal - perhaps it’s a ground issue? Have you tried the lift switch? Does it happen when nothing is plugged into the input?

Yeah I’ve tried both of those ideas and neither seemed to fix it. I’ve tried using different inputs on my interface and it’s happening on all of them. The only thing I haven’t tested is different TRS cables but these are basically brand new (I bought them when I got RIP) and it’s happening with both so it doesn’t seem like that’s the cause. I’m able to EQ it out pretty easily but that’s definitely not something I want to have to keep doing if there’s a fix for it.

The only other things I can think of would be to try regular TS cables and also make sure the transformers/electronics aren’t touching anything inside the case (other than plastic ribbon cables maybe).

RIP is passive so I don’t think it’s possible for it to generate any kind of tone. All it can do is modify whatever you plug into the ins.

Sounds like you have noise somewhere else in your system that you weren’t hearing before with a different output solution.

Does the noise persist when you unplug the 1/4" cables from RIP? If so it’s your mixer/soundcard/speakers.
Does the noise happen when 1/4" is attached, but nothing connected to RIPs 3.5mm inputs? Sounds like noisy ground in your modular case - try the ground lift switch.

Yeah it’s present with nothing plugged into the 3.5mm jacks but it goes away with the 1/4" cables unplugged from RIP but still plugged into my interface. I’ve tried the lift switch but it didn’t seem to have any effect, when I get home tonight I’ll try taking the RIP completely out of my case. I’m sure you’re right that it’s just a ground issue in my case. Now that I’m thinking about it I’m wondering if it’s my Grid being plugged directly into Ansible, I know that that can cause noise issues. I’ll try unplugging that too to see if that might be the cause. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up! I know there’s some Offworld’s also in stock via monome directly, I’ll probably order one tonight once I make sure that this is the issue but I’m 99% sure that’s it now. I was wondering when that issue was going to appear…

So it doesn’t seem like this was related to the grid actually, I think my trim settings on my interface were a little too high and it must have been some noise introduced because of that. I adjusted the levels and now it’s gone :man_shrugging: Thanks for helping me troubleshoot everyone, much appreciated.

Yes this is the case in my mastering chain. I dont use a rip but i have a cinemag color palette 500series. I wouldnt say transformers have mojo as in color or overtones. The distinct but almost unhearable effect of a transformer is its ability to tame transients without apparent level change like a compressor will do-in the case of converting voltage in and out of euroland it makes sense to have cinemag smoothness…actually smooth is the mojo. Im not really sure if you can dismiss transformers soley on price as the the cinemags are the ones used in vintage consoles. I‘ll give meng qi‘s a spin just for the fact i have a hands and it makes pretty :smiley: transformers are great at delivering smooth to clicky digital abrassive sounds-without taking the edge out.

What you can try also is to plug something that needs a ground into the same socket extension which you‘re using for the modular. Eg a waterboiler for an alibi ground.

You could price it as high as you’re comfortable with and revise downwards if it doesn’t move. I would put it up at what I bought mine for, but that’s not necessarily the right answer.
