Hello hello!

Dropping in to say that we had an incredibly high order volume so shipping has been delayed. I went ahead and sent out an e-mail to those whose orders did not make it out this Wednesday. If you did not hear from us, don’t fret, we expect to ship this week. Appreciate your patience!

Ah ha, that makes sense, though isn’t particularly clear from the phrase ‘we ship Wednesday’. Anyway, again, I’m not in a real hurry, just seeking clarity on the situation.

Thanks for the update @izzy

I’ve heard of mastering engineers running whole mixes through transformers to imbue them with the subtle character they can provide, has anyone attempted that with RIP?

I’m wondering if I’m missing something obvious: I’m running RIP directly in to my Octatrack and the sound has little low end, and is very quiet even with the gain all the way up. Switching LIFT gives a loud hum like when you unplug something. Wrong cable? Sounds from a Pocket Operator are coming in properly over the same track setup and cables, so I think the Octatrack setup should be fine.

Any ideas for tracking this down?

Are you using a TRS cable?

Heh I think so… two rings right?

Ah this is probably it: looks like Octatrack MK1 inputs are unbalanced.

That is indeed a TRS cable. But yeah lack of balanced inputs will do that.

While not a cheap option, would running a modular level signal into a regular instrument direct box with transformers also work to bring down the level for better input into an audio interface? Or would a typical DI box struggle with modular levels?

While I can’t answer that, it is (reasonably) cheap and easy to solder a couple jacks to a transformer or two and stuff in a project case. If you look around you can find the transformers that are used in RIP.

Yes, the rip is basically just a eurorack housing for a stereo DI that uses really nice cinemag transformers.

Received an email message from Team Whimsical last week, said about the supplier delay and told that it will ship on 3 Sep if not sooner.

Anyone have got the order shipping notification yet?

Got same e-mail, but no shipping confirmation

Yep, I’ll be curious if there are more delays. No shipping confirmation yet.

Anyone hear anything yet? There appears to be yet another delay I guess? I think in the interim, RIP might have been bumped from my case plans before I’ve even gotten a chance to try it

Anyone get a shipping notice late last week or yesterday ‘at the latest’ per the email?

Just got shipping confirmation.

Just got my shipping notification a minute ago, order #1849.

#1870: Your order is on the way

“we ship Wednesday”

Ha, yeah, they really should refine that incredibly unclear message. We don’t even know if your theory is actually what they mean!

(To be clear, their last message said they’d ship Tuesday at the latest, which weakens your theory)
