Just posting to say I’m eagerly looking forward to the next beta. I don’t mean to whine and I know Trent is working hard on it and also that it’s going to be magic with crow. The effort is appreciated.

Finally installed the beta and am really impressed. I patched it through arbhar when doing the update and caught some of the firmware music into the buffer. @Galapagoose can I use it?
Looking forward to finding my messed up glitchy looping delay thing with the new w/ firmware  where to start? Tape mode or w/del?

Hah! Yes of course! Each firmware makes it’s own tune, so i’m excited as anyone to hear the W/2.0 firmware song when it’s done.

I should publish the script that turns the binary data into music…

This would be amazing!

This first one is 15min mix i did after racking w/2 in fm mode, super easy to set up, heaps of fun.

This second one is running a FM3 into the delay mode

My only knit pick with either of these modes was an inability to find a way back to zero…

The current alpha(beta) v2 firmware is almost working, and has a nicely structured UI!

But where do we report issues? And when is there going to be an update?

My biggest problems:

  • In tape mode there are glitches shortly before looping
  • in tape mode loop cv / clock sync is not implemented yet
  • in delay mode the speed multiplier works only momentarily if receiving „tap“ cv

Is there any anticipated time frame for W/2 to be “ready”?

I think WR is mostly focused on getting the latest batch of JF shipped at the moment, but I would love info on W/2 too!

Just got a W/ and am similarly excited for the new firmware. I think we might be almost there – in the Mannequins stock update thread it was announced it might be ready around the new year.

I have some questions on this fw:

  • Regarding the looping function on W/Tape, while the tape is playing (play LED is lit), press record and press loop to start record and set loop start point, then press loop again to set loop’s end point, and it would play the loop from start. At this point it needs to stop the record, am I correct?

  • Any way I can reset all the setting (particularly on W/Del) asides from restoring fw?

You have to press record again in order to disable recording

Afaik there is no way of resetting parameters, as W/ keeps them in memory between power cycles

I think this might not be the case for W/Synth? It seems to default to gate in for this and v/oct for that and reset the FM index / ratio settings when I restart.

Not of a newbie question here—is it possible to use W/ (either version) using just gates/cv? It seems from the manual that most of the functionality requires button presses/combos. I’m interested in using it as a sort of random/generative looper so I don’t mind if it has a bit of a “mind of its own” but I usually need my hands to do other things

yes you can punch in and out of recording or set loop points using gates and control different things with cv (overdub amount, playback speed, etc). sometimes with v1 there were issues with turning on w/ with cv already patched but I have not had that issue with the w/2 so once you have the cv/gate inputs mapped to the purpose you want you could probably have it as a set-and-forget situation controlled only by gates and cv… if you havent played with a w/ before I will add that the buttons and switch are much much more playable than I expected, YMMV of course and having it towards the edge of a case can help too

Thank you. The main issue is that I’m generally holding a guitar :joy:

Don’t know why, I have to first create the loop start and end point and then record, else the sound won’t be record onto it. Any idea?

Also, I cannot erase the tape even I re-write the firmware.

i’d love to see this out of beta so developers can start implementing the voice for w/synth via crow for more norns apps.
i know a few of them are holding off for the reason it might change…

Yep, I’d also really like to start scripting for that tape and get access to the full however-many hours of it.

Got a W/ today, updated straight away to the latest beta. My first impression is that the W/Del mode is lovely with all the slight glitchiness / weirdness too. I don’t think I’ll be trying any of the other modes for a while, because this one is so much fun…

Ha, you must be right ! :slightly_smiling_face:

I didn’t take any note of what was happening with W/Synth, too carried away by crazy FM
