@Galapagoose Is it possible/safe to update multiple w/ units simultaneously using a buffered mult?

i’ve done it before

The issue that has always held W/ back from meeting my standard is when recording would drop out during normal use. It is regrettable the device was ever released with those issues. The good news is I believe these issues are resolved in the most recent beta. The ‘measurable’ is perhaps hearing from beta testers that this most general use case is working reliably & predictably. This ‘reliable & predictable’ standard obviously applies to all 3 engines.

I have personally spent many hours just exploring each engine, and am quite pleased with where things are at currently. This current beta-testing is to confirm there’s no blind spots in my usage tests.

There is a threshold, but it is very low, especially when compared to previous iterations. Our issue tracker currently has a single entry with the bug tag. There is planned development after the release but it is focused on features, the bug fixes happen pre-2.0. As bugs are found post 2.0, bugfix patches will be highly prioritized and released without waiting for new features to be ready.

Apologies for the bad link. I’ll just wrap up the 2.1 release and post that. Adds full W/2 support (adds ii.wtape.WARNING_clear_tape command, and renamed some others), inter-crow-ii messaging, Disting EX support & a few small bug fixes.

Apologies yes it was. We already have a large stock of W/ hardware in-house, it just needs to have the new firmware installed. Once we go 2.0, there will be more than enough stock available.

@glia is correct - it’s safe & should work just fine.

CV-control of FM num/denom is one of my favourite things about W/Syn! The hands-on control has totally changed my understanding of ratios in an FM context.

How many people do you have devoted to beta testing or are you relying on the community of users here at Lines in hopes they’ll uncover bugs?

Thanks for the explanations, it’s really illuminating.

I am relying on lines users, including a private beta-tester group who played with this latest beta before I posted it publicly.

Really looking forward to playing with this firmware update. Quick question: is Teletype support planned for, or is that going to be a community project?

Teletype support is already working afaik though it is a community project - thanks to @karol. It probably needs some small updates to be finished for 2.0, but I know he was waiting for the beta to be finalized. At this point the ii spec for the device is complete for 2.0.

I finally had a jam with the new firmware’s delay and tape modes this morning, and it just feels really damn good. Even with the aforementioned clicking on the delay loop, I didn’t care, because that felt like a minor blemish compared to how great everything else about it is.

I cannot wait to dig into the ii and synth. Excellent work.

Will the new modules have any hardware differences compared to the older modules ?

w/2 is beautiful, @Galapagoose !

i’ve spent the last hour with w/synth into w/delay and :exploding_head: the control schemes are so well done. flipping between zooming in/out of a delay loop and toggling freeze is just so much fun!

@justmat YES! The zoom thing is a lot of fun, and I always avoided ‘freeze’ on delay pedals, but somehow it works really well with the longer loop times.

@Glitcher No hardware changes. They are identical in circuit & appearance. The new modules will ship with a new manual though (which will be posted online once it’s complete).

@Galapagoose just wanted to make sure this thing @nuriaburial found doesn’t get buried. to reiterate: are triggers not meant to set beginning and end points for loops when the tape is running but not looping? (am I stuck in a cue frame of mind that does not apply here?). And then the follow up question, could there be some way to clear loop points using cv (such as high gate to loop: yellow+white equivalent to holding down loop)?

amazing update. really nice to use tape mode again, sound quality is fantastic at every speed. getting some clicks in tape on the loop reset (sounds like a nice whip percussion sound in reverse), but otherwise loving how playable it is. wet level control would be nice, but i might’ve missed it. getting clicks in delay mode, sounds like the clock pulse and every led blinks to the pulse. otherwise sounds great - the fastest and slowest delay times are sooo clean :cowboy_hat_face:

This is what I observed as well.

I haven’t implemented a more complex loop-interaction CV method because I don’t have a clear idea of what would be a useful implementation. It could easily be the same as the button-interaction, but to me it is so specific to a manual gesture – i don’t know what modules could create meaningful CV gestures to control it.

If people have specific requests of what live-loop behaviour they want, please DM me (I don’t want to clog this thread with feature discussion). Please let me know what desired sonic outcome you have, along with which modules will provide the CV/triggers/gates to meaningfully control it.

Have you tried changing the ‘zoom’ in then back out? There is a bug when you first turn it on that is causing a bigger click – I am tracking it down currently. Also, try increasing ‘filter’ to maximum as it exacerbates the click. It will be improved in the next beta, but there will likely remain a (smaller) click into 2.0

all of that helped. some very subtle, barely noticeable clicks now. and yes it was the loudest when i first started using it. thanks for all your work on this, the zoom controls are too nice!

I did some teletype related work on this branch GitHub - kfirmanty/teletype at w/-2.0 but it is hard to tell when I will finish it as work and family issues overwhelmed me for past few months so apologies to all that were counting on me finishing it soon :frowning: Will try to check this weekend how well it plays with current beta and try to fix any outstanding issues.

No pressure on you at all! Thank you for all the work that you’ve done on it.

I was more checking on whether W/ Type was a WR-supported feature of W/ 2.0 or if it was dependent on community good will and time, which, it sounds like the latter. Those of us that would like to see W/ interoperate with Teletype will have to put the work in.

Took the plunge and updated. Question about the documentation that feels a bit unclear.

Does the W/ state remain at whatever point it was when powering back up or will it go back to the default state of whatever mode unless you save the set up as a preset?

Also:

Also, am I just misunderstanding this section:

I can’t get it to record unless I have the ‘dry’ level up, so is loop+play actually setting what is recorded by the tape? Are the loop+play and play+record settings swapped in some way in the description?

Thanks.

Apologies this is a regression. I’ll get a new beta up this evening. At present, you’ll need monitor up to be able to record.

W/ will start up with whichever engine you most recently were using.

If you are using Delay or Syn, the settings are not saved unless you explicitly do so from the launcher. When changing to a different engine, settings are not saved unless you explicitly do so either.

If you using Tape, the settings are saved on a rolling basis and there is no need (or ability) to do the ‘save’ command from the launcher. ‘Clearing the preset’ in W/Tape will erase the tape (but leave other settings untouched).

I know it’s a little confusing that they operate differently, but it was the best solution I could find for the quite different modalities.
