Here’s the delay zoom feature. The soundsource is a Mangrove.

And double w/ (synth mode + tape mode) with i2c from Teletype

Wow wow wow I love this! Would you mind sharing your code? I might have to “pretty much copy” it into norns :stuck_out_tongue:

Funny how we iterate on each other’s ideas… sort of like a delay in and of itself

Thank you ^.^ love that we’re all stages in a delay line. The Bucket Brigade of Life.

Didn't save it, but here's as best I can remember

SCRIPT 1:
P.N 0; A P.NEXT
PROB: 30 A + A 12
EVERY 2: W/S.PV 1 N A V 3
DEL 20: W/S.PV 1 N A VV 50
DEL 30: $ 2

SCRIPT 2:
P.N 1; B P.NEXT
PROB: 30 B + B 12
W/S.PV 2 N B V 2
DEL 20: W/S.PV 2 N A V 0

With note data in patterns one and two and a metro script triggering $ 1. It was something like this, you might have to mess with it a bit, I kept tweaking so I don’t remember exactly what the finished version was.

I’m curious what you mean by copying it into norns, are you working on something for controlling w/ with norns via crow? o_o

This is the obvious next step of the expanded i2c commands. Really excited about this. There are chances to do the same using Max and Max4Live as well!

Yup! I believe crow 2.0 will support all the new W/ stuff… in the meantime there’s a beta you can mess with.

Also there’s Just-play… between those two much awaits.

crow beckons menacingly, i should’ve known norns would tempt me with its murderous friends :frowning:

Here’s a better demo to show the sound of the FM synth mode, via Crow and the Max for live w/synth app. There’s a lot of modulation being done on all the w/ parameters on the computer.

Lovely! I’ve been living with it in delay mode the past week or so—switched to synth mode earlier today and my love was reignited, got some amazing bass and tenor grooves out of it and I was only using 3 of the 4 voices… starting to understand the hype about polyphony lol

Just got my W/ - I think I completely misunderstood the cue point functionality of the 1.2.1 firmware! I thought you could jump between cues using a voltage and use it as a kind of monophonic MPC/SP404. Nope! And it kind of doesn’t fit the paradigm anyway. That’s what happens when I make assumptions based on my own interpretation of the manual. Oh well. I still want a thing that does that, but damn, this is a really nice module, and I see now why cue points were removed. It’s like what I use my 4-track for every once in a while, built right into the modular - great. The delay is a big bonus too.

I can proceed with the new firmware without fear now - better do so before I record anything I like too much.

I use w/ for more than a year now and just today I realized that it’s not made for immediate slice sequencing as I assumed but never tried. :man_shrugging:
Both w/s are going to 2.0 then.

Did I missed something? What is FM and Synth mode on the /W?
Alternative firmware?

The latest v2 beta firmware has quite a few changes. There are now three different engines, Tape (a simplified version of v1), Delay, and Synth. Synth is a 2 op fm engine. Check out the w/ beta thread for more info!

Super thx
All my recordings will be overwritten. I don’t think I can recover them in some way then?

Cheers

Yeah, I don’t think there is a method for exporting your tapes. Outside of playing them all into another recorder, which seems more than a little arduous if you have a lot of recordings spread across the various tapes.

Someone sufficiently motivated could dump the whole SD card and write a program to extract the audio, using the layout documentation here. I just went through and played everything back to my computer to record the tape contents – turned out I had less material than I thought, and it was kind of fun to listen to the whole thing linearly. If you then wanted to record all this back to the W/ tape this is not currently really possible since I think the current beta actually limits the tape to just a few minutes.

Or buy another W/ :joy:

No but seriously, I don’t know about others, but there is a lot of sweat and tears in those recordings. I would like to keep them or at least export them…

Temporary solutions:

  1. Get a second micro SD card to use with the new firmware. You can revert to v1.2 to continue with the old card. Make sure you remove the card before switching firmware, then only re-insert the card after the firmware update is finished.
  2. Make a disk image of the SD card until someone writes a wave-extractor for the old format recordings. I have something that got part way through this I should post. It needs a lot of work, but just dumped the audio between each cue point into a separate .wav file.

That said - the W/2 beta is not primetime ready. It has a number of issues that are actively being solved. We’re planning to post a new beta by the end of this month.

Got one last week and its slowly becoming one of my favorites. It’s so basic yet so useful and explorative! Best addition to my system yet

Anyone having issues with recordings and cues being completely forgotten after being powered down for a while? I seem to lose my last 2 or 3 recordings pretty much every time I jam with it. My unit is new too; I got it just a couple months ago, burned the new firmware, and burned the old one back after deciding I’d rather wait for the full record time. Is it possible that burning the firmware twice would mess up the SD card?
