so from the manual:

THAT enables CV control over the recording mode. Now we can
explore the inbetween of OVERDUB (0v) and OVERWRITE (-5v).
Consider the difference between these modes is whether we
are erasing existing recorded material as we lay down new
sounds. A point out around -4v will give the effect of an
old tape deck or delay, leaving faint ghosts of recorded
material.

Sounds more complicated than a simple amplitude mixing of the old and new in the buffer. I was wondering if wrMix is related? I can’t really read dsp code, but this line seems curious (hpf?):

dc_step_v( &(mix->hpf), bus2, tmp, mix->b_size);

I really can’t wait to get the details on the Teletype integration. On it’s own it sounds like a lot of fun — but it could become ridiculously powerful with Teletype. Remote speed setting, cue setting, jumping and looping could go a really long way. Just imagine that with a Grid too. This ecosystem is getting crazy exciting.

ohhhhh right right right! I wonder when the details will drop

this is my thought as well. I invision all sorts of uses for the W/ & Magneto combo!

yeah but what’s wild is @MengQiMusic already demonstrated the power of ā€œmereā€ control voltage. Grid integrated tt sequencing of W/ sans specialized remote commands!

eventually there might be Arc-TT integration too
certainly not necessary when there are countless other ways to feed this sampler.

it would be a another intuitive means to explore W/ buffer play

Feed an array of W/ with a low-latency, high-quality sampler … like the Assimil8or, for example, which is in turn triggered by Grids or TT … lather, rinse, repeat. Then crossfade and jimble-jamble with Cold Macs and there you go.

This is all I have been thinking about also since the drop! Navigating through hours of cue points and pairing those points with another W/'s points. Dream compositional tool.

@voidstar – do you happen to have the rest of your video posted anywhere? would love to watch the full thing, if possible.

Wondering how wet/dry and in/out are handled…

Does your IN signal always get mixed through? only when recording?

Very cool module - I’m curious about how more than one will interact and the teletype abilities. Did we find out if this is an audio only module? Lots of unanswered questions and mystery still.

The fact that you can feed triggers and cv into the jacks is really interesting - seems informed by the run jack on Just Friends. Definitely interesting with Cold Mac and Walk multed into it.

How do all you morphagene and magneto users feel about it? As as an ER-301 user, I feel like I have looping and audio manipulation covered decently, but there’s a lot of creative zones to explore with W/. I’m also trying to imagine the ergonomics of this little thing, especially since most of the sampling/tape modules are pretty giant.

just read the manual a moment ago, and in/out monitoring is toggled on and off via a global mode.

also from the global mode, i’m very intrigued by the fact there are six tapes

This looks like so much fun, a great piece of glue for a number of different workflows. Ordered one!

Among the things I’m curious about, aside from the TT integration details, is the nature of the memory. Is it integrated? Expandable? SD card behind the panel? Volatile or nonvolatile? The ā€œscratch padā€ nature suggests volatile, but I’m not sure it’s going to be easy to fill eight hours of tape in a single session.

Grabbed two at Control this afternoon, just in case they’re sold out when I want a second. FYI they don’t yet have Slashes in stock.

Only played with one so far, and WOW—this thing is incredibly fun and musical. Really integrates perfectly into the whimsical/monome environment. I’m used to Cold Mac multitasking, but now it’s moving mountains.

dope, thanks, went through the manual, didn’t catch the sidebar

As each ā€œvirtual tapeā€ is quite long, does anyone know how to be sure that after powering your system up you start at the same location as when you powered down the day before ?

Related to that, there is no visualization of where you are in the tape. Will the Teletype integration enable the visualization of this on the TT screen ? i2C is bidirectional, right ?

I just picked one up. There’s an SD card in there.

happy morphagene user, eager to add at least one w/ to my small system. max recording length immediately makes it a totally different instrument, imo. I tend to improvise 90% of the time and have trouble remembering what I was playing (whether it’s bass, cello, piano, modular) 5 minutes ago. to feed it every time I jam and go back through hours in a hands-on way will be amazing.

This suggests you could load in external sounds as a foundation, then fiddle with them, overwriting and dubbing and generally messing with them, then remove it and load it back into a computer … ?

after powering up, W/ is at the exact same state before.

@dude Thank you so much for the encouragement!!! Let’s keep on playing awesome instruments.
