it’s not designed like that, SD is on the back thus not easily accessible.
using it like a tape deck is much easier - to transfer audio, record back to / from computer.

Very wise design decision.

I hope it comes to UK stockists soon.
EDIT: Well, that was soon.

any idea on Sampling Rate / Bit Depth?

I read an instagram post saying you could record CV. Can anyone confirm? Also is there a quick option for deleting the audio via a button press?

I’ve found a few Instagram posts, mostly by luck, but has anyone found other videos that they could share?

ordered… out of fear, confusion and fascination… and that it could end up being really cool and also sell out quickly… i hope it is as abstractly interesting and useful as it sounds!

def curious about the sample rate. if we knew the size of the card on the back we could guess the rate given the 8 hours of mono recording time.

Curious about this too… cv tape would push me over

Updated USPS delivery date is Saturday instead of Monday. Phew.

We’ll see if I can coax anything shareable out of it this weekend!

This was my exact thinking when I purchased mine.

Whew ordered one about a half hour ago from Control and looks like they’re out of stock now. I’m not even sure what I’m going to do with this thing yet but that’s particularly exciting. I normally only buy modules with a specific purpose because I don’t want to accumulate gear that I end up not using but this thing seems incredible and full of endless possibility.

Have any early adopters figured out the “cheat codes” yet? The “cheat modes” could be a game changer on this module, depending on what they do. If they just give you infinite lives I think I’ll pass. If they do something useful, like squeeze all the juice out of an oscillator, I think I’ll jump on in.

We have also been told that success in playing this instrument relies on “muscle memory.”

From the OED:

MUSCLE: Any of the bundles, bands, or sheets of contractile tissue which act to produce movement in, or maintain the position of, parts of the human or animal body…

MEMORY: Senses relating to the action or process of commemorating, recollecting, or remembering.

So we need a bundle, band, or sheet to contract while in the process of commemorating something. This sounds like an experimental ‘new music’ score.

I’m going to assume that all of this together means one needs to memorize the “cheat codes” in order to activate the “cheat modes.” Instead of entering data through a game-pad, the player must instead use their body to enter the code.

So W/ encodes the motion of the human body. A “cheat code” a way to unfairly use the system (against itself?). What or who is /W against? Where do I stand in relation to /W if I need to contract my body into an unfair shape? Can I play this instrument at all without compromising my ethics?

These are some ideas I have about /W.

You’re on the right lines, I reckon.

Surely someone has tried ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → P L
And variations thereof…?

beat me to it!

What about a hadoken?

Is the Switch up/down or 8-way directional?
This thing needs a Joystick!

I’d be surprised if he packed secret modes into it — it doesn’t quite fit in the design philosophy of simplicity. I think he just relates the muscle memory associated the button press combos of old-school video games with the experience of using W/. But you actually can use it as an oscillator with v/oct control in cue mode. (High gate into this, pitch into that)

I think we were just messing about. You’re right - it wouldn’t fit the Whimsical design aesthetic - despite the name

By cheat codes, I assume the intention is that we will learn combinations of button presses that yield especially interesting results - and we will want to try those same combinations with a variety of source material.

EDIT: Has CV recording been denied/confirmed yet? And, does anyone have any links to videos, youtube or instagram, which haven’t been posted yet? Hoping my W/ arrives tomorrow but… The Hype is real.

Interesting.

I like your idea that there are no secret modes but that by entering “cheat codes” using “muscle memory” one is already in “cheat mode.”

There is no rational, unitary mode which can be “cheated.” There is no mode at all. There is only the human interacting with the module to reveal or produce different kinds of intensities.

What a cool module. I ordered one.

EDIT: Just having a laugh + agree with what’s been said about the old-school video game reference and dexterity involved in punching in those cheat codes.

Ordered but changed my mind/cancelled …lame, yes - gotta keep impulse buys to a minimum. I’ll see how people like it and consider.:thinking:

ordered one - being able to integrate, manipulate and synchronise guitar loops within the isms ecosystem was something i’d been hoping monome or WR would make happen at some point. will definitely be buying more as and when i can afford them. one alone is powerful…but 4! most effects were originally discovered through tape manipulations, if i’m not mistaken, hence i imagine multiple w/s allow the creation of phasers, flangers, choruses, delays, comb filters and everything in between and mlr must surely be possible via TT commands and a grid…amazing module, endless possibilities
