I have had the chance to spend the day with with, and its very good indeed. As others have pointed out, it’s like a single channel version of the Count To Five pedal. Mannequins modules need patience to understand what is going on and what the consequences of your interactions are and w/ is no exception.

I now get the idea behind the 8 hour sample time. The module is a place to put stuff. Stuff you can pick up at a later date and use as source material. In many ways this element serves the same purpose as Radio Music.

I’ve just ordered another two so I can Count to Five directly in my modular case. A really fun module that is rewarding to fiddle about with ( with ).

I ordered // and I am really happy to hear the Ct5 comparison! Much excite!

That makes me understand why someone might want 3 or 4 of them… a couple for storing source material and a couple as real-time tape-style loop manipulation.

Definitely a module that’s going to reward persistence. Even the tutorial is a struggle to get through! But gradually getting the hang of it…

Here I’ve figured out how to make a gradually decaying looper to make some slow layered synthscapes with a single mangrove.

That was a beautiful piece! Nicely done…

Can anyone speak plainly about the desirability of multiple modules?

That was lovely! Is that earthsea on the grid?

Did anyone order direct from whimsical? Refreshing those emails waiting for shipping

There’s some (not very nice sounding) clipping in your video, does that come from the module (i.e. over max headroom) or from the phone (I guess) used to record it ?

Hmm… mine has completely seized up on me about 8 times within the first hour and a half of using it. I have to power down and back up for it to start working again. I have it hooked up to very reliable power supply too. Not a great start.

Is the vibrato from tape modulation in W/ or on the Mangrove/input material?

@jimi23 yep that’s earthsea

@oscillateur The clipping in the video is from instagram, which often adds that to my posts when I forget to bring the volume down a little. In the original audio there is no clipping. Having said that, I’ve noticed it is very easy to get the module to clip. I’ve put an attenuator before the input to help avoid this.

@photofractal I had the same experience, it just seemed to get stuck…but I’m pretty sure it was user error for me. Now I’m getting the hang of it, it doesn’t seem to happen.

@yoyosandshoes Modulation is on mangroves barrel input. As far as I can tell, you can’t modulate both tape speed and overdub/overwrite at the same time as they both take input from THAT, depending which mode you’re in: NAV for Tape speed; LIVE for overdub/overwrite. Presumably Teletype integration will get round this.

You could very easily make out of phase tape loops - like music for airports, for ever. And I’m sure there are a lot of other use cases.

I do think that it would be difficult to ā€˜play’ several of these at once - I’m interested to see what slashes will do to help with this.

I’m already finding that the ā€˜tape’ on my w/ is full of stuff I have no recollection of recording. It’s really fun to make new loops and find the detritus of old music spilling into them.

Occasionally my W/ is getting into a mode where the white light next to the loop button is lit and not the yellow. I’m unable to then get back to normal looping mode (both lights on) without power cycling… does anyone know what’s going on here? I am in some strange mode?

You have definitely entered ā€œcheat mode.ā€

But I just want to play by the rules!!!

I’ve been experiencing the same thing. Haven’t figured this one out yet.

of course they are all sold out. Two years in the making, why not making a few more

it’s this kind of shit that makes me hate euro. I would prefer one of these WAY over the plaits or whatever but it’s still annoying
