Ha - so I’m not alone in having fallen asleep the last two nights in a row while reading the manual in bed! Its logic seems to come through best in that hazy headspace

I just did it. Read my previous posts.

I backed up the sd-card in my brand new W/ on Saturday and just now experimented with copying it back. It uses a file-system that my PC won’t write to - so that was the end of that.

It is just a data file - and probably possible to reverse engineer. Whether it is worth it or not is another question.

definitely a module (like TT and friends) where I turn it off and can’t shake the what-ifs and how-abouts for hours afterwards, which leads to trying to wind down a day reading the manual. Yesterday, my cat literally sat down on top of my skiff while I was trying to work, assumedly because I’d forgotten to pay much attention to her. cats … so demandy.

maybe w/ is to be explored with others in the community. will be joining you soon.

@Galapagoose never change your manuals please…

hello all! this is izzy here to offer some help with the tutorial. below, find the entire script for “izzy”. hope this clarifies any issues regarding the sequence of levels.

  1. hey, i’m stuck looping!
  2. phew, thanks for sticking w/. let’s move around. stop the tape and hold up to fast forward.
  3. now, rewind.
  4. press play.
  5. speed up by holding play and flicking up.
  6. now, my speed and pitch are doubled. how do you cut my speed and pitch in half?
  7. phew, that was exhausting! time’s arrow goes both ways. hold down and press play.
  8. so, how do you record with w/? plug a sound source into IN.
  9. hit record to overdub this.
  10. to overwrite, hold record and flick down.
  11. how do you loop? during playback, flick down to add a cue point. this is the start of the loop.
  12. now, flick up to add a second cue point. this cue is the end of the loop.
  13. stop the tape. hold loop and press record to enter cue mode then press play to audition.
  14. move this cue by holding up.
  15. press record to save the cue at its new location.
  16. nice! you’ve got the basics down and you’re almost ready to play w/. let’s switch to live mode. while auditioning, hold down then release play.
  17. navigate to the next cue by holding loop and flicking up.

Where are people installing w/ in their racks? I was originally going to put it next to other ii modules for easy cabling, thinking I’d also want to post-process it like other sound sources, but now I’m wondering if it might be better off in my “performance” area next to the mixer, post-fx section.

Also, for isms skiff ergonomics, I’ve gotten in the habit of flipping modules that have jacks on the bottom so they’re at the top. Planning on doing the same for w/ and taking the 1.5x bonus confusion multiplier that typically comes with that practice. :upside_down_face:

Having grave difficulty figuring out the “cheat codes” and remain stuck in “regular mode” due to user stupidity. Somehow layered one billion drum loops on top of Izzy and got stuck. Last night, I “rage quit” and threw my gamepad at the screen. I will try again tonight.

as an initial spot i stuck mine in an isms case on the far end from teletype, i don’t currently have the er301 on ii but i’m hoping that as it’s not a problem getting i2c to JF it might be fine getting to ER301 and w/. But I have found the right handed ergonomics are cool as the buttons and display of er301 make a nice little hand hole to get into the w/ buttons easily. It’s also been sweet using er301s record buffers to “tape” the craziness coming out of w/. here’s the current isms setup

Are there actually cheat codes? Or do you just mean “how to use it”?

A common problem seems to be people restart izzy but leave something plugged in to IN. Maybe that?

I could be wrong, but I have not found any cheat codes, I think currently it’s just a metaphor @Galapagoose is making for the general navigation being like memorizing combos in a game, which seems really apt as I’ve been slowly figuring mine out.

My guess is that while there maybe more difficult button taps w/ extended features later, it would be smart to limit these during this phase of development, as it would be easier to make it more complex once people get warmed up, and this would just add to the potential to end up somewhere w/ no documentation.

While I’ve hit some snags and think i’ve locked mine up a few times which required a reboot, but led to some puzzling behavior before i power cycled. Many of my initial errors are creeping back to me as it starts to all make a little more sense, and I’m realizing that there were definitely some occasions where I just didn’t know what was happening and got lost/frustrated.

A thing I stumbled upon yesterday which was perhaps not super duper clear in the manual was the way the lights tell you the mode you are in. I think I assumed the lights in the diagram were the ones by the p button as it kind of looked like that in the diagram, but once i realized they were at the top of the module it was eye opening. So just imagine a little toggle under them in the diagram

sorry for the rampant manual screenshots.

edit: I don’t think it is fully documented (i might take this one tonight) but knowing exactly what all the lights mean would probably be super informative, so far I know I’ve been guessing a little. And so much is happening it’s often hard to decipher. For instance, the top lights appear to pulse when you are playing, but not necessarily in sync w/ the pulse around loop, haven’t yet figure that out, maybe tonight

I made it through the tutorial just fine, somehow, but didn’t spend much time actually trying to figure W/ out yet. Before going to bed did chance on a very sweet time-lag accumulation thing I’m looking forward to revisiting.

I’ve put mine inbetween some blanks in a low cable traffic area. No issues but I’m thinking about putting it on an end(next to erbeverb or Rosie). Mantis case, empty row is my unused MN Skiff

No, no, the “cheat codes” thing was a joke about the metaphor and not the reality. I love the metaphor so much I can’t stop using it.

Will definitely make sure nothing remains plugged in the “in” tonight - thanks!

Received mine today and only played with it for an hour now. So far I’m really in love with it.

I was a bit worried after reading the reception here and on MW. I’ve just done the tutorial and then used it a bit as a simple looper and tape delay and honestly, I’d be happy with it even if it did just that in 2hp with the ease of operation for that simple use case. I wish there was a way to modulate tape speed in live mode while recording, but maybe I just haven’t figured that out, yet. NAV is great. Tomorrow I’ll try to explore further. But I’ve got to say, It’s been a much smoother experience than anticipated.

Has anyone who ordered directly from WR received a shipping notification yet?

Edit: Discourse appears to not allow strikethrough, but consider all of the following as crossed out, in response to this comment: Mannequins W/ (with)
~CV into THAT while in live mode does this. Cold Mac is good for doing this manually but any modulation will do, manual or not~

(That much I did figure out last night  )

I am still patiently waiting as well. Ordered on release day.
