I don’t think so. THAT in LIVE mode changes the quality of tape and how fast sounds you record decay again. I’ve played extensively with THAT in LIVE mode, so I’m certain of this. Even the manual says so.

THAT changes playback speed in NAV mode, however. That’s pretty cool as well, but I just found myself wishing to add a bit of wobble to the tape in LIVE mode while recording.

You could set an overdub setting w/ That in Live mode then jump to Nav mode, your Live_That setting should latch at its current state (per the manual, tho i believe I can attest to that being true from use as well). And then you could use the variable playback speed in Nav while still overdubbing/writing.

that being said you can only control one or the other simultaneously, but perhaps these are the sort of cool things which await TT users whenever the ops are developed

Just paired W/ w/ Rings: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bgmdvn4HJ1C/

Starting to understand it better, but still a bit lost on cue mode.

You are right; apologies for misleading. I’ll edit my post.

However, the manual also makes it sound like you can record while in NAV mode:

THAT allows one to redefine the meaning of being stopped.
0v is your zerobase, out from which are forward and reverse
motion. Roll around your tape, set dynamic delay times
within a loop (LIVE_THAT settings will latch!), or customize
your tape deck with an offset-LFO for maximum WOW.

Beyond navigation, this through-zero tape speed can be
misused to great effect. Think low-audio-range squarewaves,
or modulate pulse-width for broken grain playback. Nudge
the toggle for pitchbends or rhythmic realignment. And
remember record will stay active as long as you desire it!

I’m fairly positive I did this last night…running Max Richter’s Sleep into w/, while fiddling with CV into THAT. Got all kinds of warping fun.

However, I’m confused enough by this module that it is also possible that is not at all what happened

definitely not the thread for finding restraint

It’s only 2hp. You have room!

Kinda waiting for the “W” custom unit for ER-301 (or for me to find time to make one, which assumes I also find time to do the I2C mod and learn the Lua middle layer SDK, which are higher on the ER-301 TODO list).

I might jump on the W/ bandwagon eventually, but I’m not feeling the pull just yet.

ordered on release day, still crickets

not yet, I didn’t order till Friday though. Someone earlier in the thread said they received it without ever getting shipping confirmation, so they might just be so bogged down that they aren’t getting the emails out

2hp is definitely a nice form factor.

This, all day long. The interface of w/ isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.

I’m not here to argue. I think it’s great that folks are enjoying W/. This isn’t a zero-sum game. We all win!

But it’s not hard to add buttons and other control interfaces to ER-301 (or anything else in eurorack). It’s modular!

I just can’t figure out how to use this thing, I’ve done the tutorial so many times that at the point where you’re supposed to record sound it’s overdubbed so much that I can’t hear Izzy anymore. In live mode I’ve hit record and down so many times and I can never get it to overwrite the current portion of the tape. Does record just always add to the end of the tape or something?

Ordered on the 15th at 8:30am, still haven’t heard anything which is making me a little nervous. In hindsight I kinda wish I would’ve grabbed one from Control.

Same. I don’t know why but it didn’t even dawn on me to check the usual retailers.

Wait I think I just started to get this actually, I think I just needed to be recording already when I press down and record to overwrite. Just started to make some basic loops that sound kind of close to what I was going for! Little wins are nice

After getting through some initial frustration with it, it does seem pretty smooth. Like riding a bicycle – “muscle memory” is very apt. Once the bugs are worked out, it’ll be better still.

Haven’t heard anything either, but I don’t think you need to be nervous. I’m sure they’re shipping as fast as possible. Unless you’re worried about missing out on the confusion and the struggle (weirdly kind of bummed to be missing out on this tbh). Don’t figure it all out by the time we get our w/s.

I must say, it’s quite addictive to tinker with isn’t it? Just recording stuff…pitching it up and down…reversing it…simple stuff…listening to it loop…its…fun. Recording stuff and slowing playback down just a little bit with cv sounds lovely. There is def more going on here than just pure digital playback. It’s got a yummy sound.

The only pain in the ass is deleting cues. I personally dont see a case for persisting loops between reboots… maybe thats just me.

Same. Haven’t received a shipping notice yet. Someone else in the thread said that they didn’t receive one, but their w/ arrived. The website does say “ships within 7 days”, so I’m not sure. Also, I ordered w// (w/slashes), so it may be taking longer to get those soldered up.
