Oh man thanks so much for this tip! I’m going to keep playing around on tape one while I get the hang of it but as soon as I get comfortable I’ll have to start using the other tapes. Do you happen to know if the tapes are all 8 hours or are they divided up into an hour and a third (8 hours divided by six tapes)?

Does TT also give you an overview of the tape status? For instance: does it show the user what minute their on when recording?

Not right now. The TT integration is still a work in progress. The commands available in the beta allow you to set the recording state, jump to relative cues (next/prev), set the play direction and set the looping state.

Commands I’d like to see is a jump to absolute position, get current absolute position and wipe the tape.

I’ve been wanting the OP-1 tape deck in euro format for years and, even without the visual feedback, the ease of use of w/ comes pretty close imho.

Better data viz would go a long way towards addressing my usability concerns. Interesting train of thought.

Think I just ran into a bug.

When rewinding all the way back to the beginning of a tape in NAV mode, the play button does not seem to work anymore.

IMHO I’d rather better data and control than visualisation.

I think I might have hit the rewind bug. Try playing backwards when you hit that, then stop and play fwds? At least I think that’s what I did (note to self, take better notes!)

I’ll give it a shot next time I run into it.

Besides operating w/, turning my case on and off is also becoming muscle memory.

Keep these up. PLEASE!

I think Teletype can deliver that with straight text. No real need for a fancy tape illustration. It would be pretty cool though!

I agree. Should be easy to add to TT. Cool visualisation is likely to be quite a lot of work though.

Yes, it’s true. We get so used to the graphics subsystems on our general purpose computing platforms that we forget what it’s like when you have to manage every pixel yourself.

I’d be fine with simplistic tape position feedback like ā€œ12m 56sā€.

The post just dropped off my W//!! A day early, and on a Sunday to boot. Time to dive in!

:champagne::champagne: have fun!

@scanner_darkly has done a bit of graphics programming on Teletype. Maybe he can show you around his code a bit and turn you into a TT firmware hacker. but I guess this is veering off-topic and there’s a W/ Type Firmware Ideas thread.

Some wobbly tape via THAT CV input:

I’ll have one more of these today, but that’s it. It’s back to the grindstone tomorrow, and then some vacation time.
