Sounds gorgeous to me. Characterful. I like the artefacts and spectral movement.

Wow that was truly beautiful. Did you record that in a single take?

Hrm – Doesn’t Loop+Down go to the start of the cue (back), and Loop+Up to the next cue (forward)? I thought thats the way loop traversal operates in Nav mode too.

Sorry yep absolutely too much w/ has inverted my mind

thanks, that’s exactly what I did. Do the LEDs close to the rec-Button switching from yellow to white?

I’ve the feeling that the module does randomly add and deleting CUE - Points.I think the weak toggle switch is bouncing as hell and therefore and maybe it does not work correctly. I really like the concept of the module but at the moment it is useless. I’ll wait for a replacement of the switch and a bugfix for the SW :frowning:

I’ve experienced similar problems to the ones you’ve described, regarding cue points mysteriously appearing. I put it down to my thick thumbs but it does all feel quite buggy in parts, lots of freezes. I’m sure these will be addressed as soon as they get around to sorting an update. Annoying though, I sympathise!

We definitely need a description of the rec leds in cue mode.

Thanks! It was sort of a single take – I recorded a loop in W/ first, let it keep playing, then switched Plaits algorithms, set up everything else including most of the effects, and recorded a take.

There was some editing afterwards in Sound Forge – it originally went on longer, but I cut it off and washed it out in reverb at the new ending. And I grabbed the ā€œpopā€ sound, processed it some and pasted it back in at each repetition.

Sigh.

I have Teletype and W/ talking to each other. But things are just so buggy that it’s a constant struggle to make W/ function in even basic ways. I keep running into three things:

  • Recording is active, but nothing is recorded. Requires reboot to fix.

  • Weird glitchy noises instead of whatever is supposed to be on the tape (or, maybe those weird glitchy noises got recorded somehow).

  • Crashing when attempting to change tapes – the only bug that I can point to any pattern, because it seems to be 100%. And then after rebooting I’m not even sure I’m on a new tape because of the other bugs.

When you’re just trying to make it work and reboot four times and it still fails a fifth time – especially when you’ve got a Teletype on the same power switch and ā€œrebootā€ means either saving or losing what you’ve written for it – it just stops being fun and I give up.

Hoping for a firmware update with bug fixes soon, as well as the instructions on erasing tapes.

I received my W/ on Sunday but have been reluctant to start the tutorial as it seems quite apparent that there are bugs. I thought I’d read somewhere in these nearly 1000 posts that @Galapagoose was trying to update the firmware last week?

I’m thinking I should wait for steadier firmware and instructions on how to erase tapes as it seems the first steps I make with my W/ might be regretted as I can’t back out of certain steps. Did I miss something about a new date for the next firmware?

Yea - I received mine today. I’m about an hour in and I am already feeling a little frustrated. I’ve only had one glitch in the module but moreover the interface just isn’t clicking with me. I thought I would get the hang of it once I had it in front of me but not at all. I’m trying to follow along with the written instructions but they don’t clearly lay out what the LED combinations mean. You are left hitting button combos hoping that you are in the right mode. I successfully created one loop but inadvertently added probably a dozen cue points in it just trying to navigate around that I’m trying to get rid of. I get its attempted minimalism but I’m a long way from feeling comfortable with this thing. I hate coming off negative about a release - I see the potential but in this case my limited mental faculties aren’t keeping up.

Just my 2 cents — i’d definitely try it, and also stick with it.

The first session is painfull, but the next one is exponentially better! The firmware being buggy doesn’t help, but I think its worth getting through that rough patch asap. Its a journey…

I wouldn’t get too attached to anything that gets recorded though!

Cold Mac LEFT out or AND out -> THAT is very handy indeed for fading in your current playing sample loop to balance out the volume with what you are playing at the IN. Just turn the Survey knob.

heres some stuff i’ve been doing

Great clips! Was Earthsea controlling a vocal sample or something? I really enjoyed that sound

got caught up w/ you all yesterday. the only weird thing i’m encountering is occasionally i can’t actually record or create loops/cues, but a power cycle will fix that.

sharing my first encounters to add to the growing pool of audio examples. everything is based on mangrove sequences/layers via ansible or earthsea, using w/ as a looping delay with heavy feedback. the first clip actually uses a loop stored in the other w/ and slight cv modulation into THAT in nav mode.

just got mine yesterday and played a bit
…i have an interface question for all of you

when PLAY is pressed, what part of the tape am i hearing?
the whole tape on a loop? or just the sound between one specific set of cue points?

does the answer depend on which mode I’m in?

If loop is engaged, you’ll hear only the sound between two cue points. If loop is off, it’ll play the whole tape until the end.

ok rad
i really appreciate that

now i’ll have a better idea whats going on when navigating and recording
