i love mine. though i have to admit that it fell out of use recently (time reasons really). like the teletype for me, if i am away from it the muscle memory goes and it takes a bit to get back to being able to use it effortlessly. but i love it, especially when i automate a bunch of stuff via teletype.

side note: my 5 year old daughter, having seen it only once, still remembers that it is “the dinosaur module” which is just awesome

Wow, just got this as I’m starting to build a small generative rack to do its thing whilst I’m using guitar and singing. I was originally looking at a DLD or morphagene, but I’m taking a gamble with this.
This is a huge thread, I’m going to have to trawl through it I think. If anyone has any tips using it with marbles or just friends, please share! My current setup is this. https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_836867.jpg

I don’t have Just Friends (yet yet yet) but my advice wrt Marbles or really ANY modulation of W/ is to get a Shades, as W/ also loves constant voltages, and definitely needs attenuation.

@Obelisk I’ve found Coldmac to be a great companion, the big single knob controlling either playback speed/direction or overdub/overwrite/decay behavior. W/ likes the bipolar voltage offsets. Plus, in a small system you really can’t beat the number of simple yet interesting utilities in such a small space.

In your setup, a channel or two of your tangle quartet can be used for modulator attenuation if needed too.

thanks @coreyr and @baleen. Yes I built a simple passive AT AT AT attenuator the other weekend, and now thinking something like Shades that can output a constant voltage would be handy for JF and W/. I’m on the fence at the moment trying to decide between combos of Cold Mac, Shades and Maths/Batumi/Stages. Part of me is thinking Maths although large HP might do all I need. Stages/coldmac, is prob the other alternative combo.
Oh, and I really never use tangle for attenuating CV. It ends up being a audio/voice mixer most of the time!

Just to piggyback on these comments, the Happy Nerding 3X MIA has been invaluable to me while using w/! Small, cheap and incredibly useful.

well i can’t believe that on a modular synthesizer forum no one chimed in with Maths. and yes, indeed, function generation, attenuversion, constant voltages.

anyway I think we’ve got the main suspects on the table. personally, I haven’t used my Batumi or Stages with W/, but ymmv, it’s your build. In general I recommend Cold Mac, but it hasn’t been partnering with W/, without Shades.

I hadn’t even considered maths as mine is so often tied up in other parts of a patch, but it will certainly do the trick and then some. I have used it to introduce some tape-warble-esque behavior to w/ playback to great effect.

Just picked up a Maths for a reasonable price, think this will do the trick and prob most flexible. I still have room and can think about being more efficient with space later on if needs be!

and @Obelisk yeah it’s time to patch up my EOR/C into this or that i think

Thanks Damon
For the w/ cheat sheet

My favorite setup as of late with the W/ has revolved around using a stereo pair of them with +5v offsets into THAT to create what they call in the manual the “destructive looper”… turn off the monitoring, create two different length loops, and send the same audio source to both and just start jamming. Things just start appearing and disappearing, it is like jamming with a past/future version of yourself. Subtly modulate that +5v offset if you want an extra layer or two. Mainly been doing this with a Moog Grandmother and its easy to get lost for a while.

Quick one to say I adapted most of withw.rustle.works (fixing a few mistakes) and, with some other bits from the current manual, made a W/ section in @burns_audio’s Modes app (iOS) and synthmodes.com. Happy looping!

Awesome! Any word on when Modes will get updated with this new goodness in the App Store?

@burns_audio just released it, so it typically is pushed to devices by the end of the day or tomorrow…

Thanks for this. Really useful.
It’s on the app now.

Really appreciate this!

Thank you so much @eesn for doing the port, it looks great!

@voidstar is right, the update should be available within ~12-24hrs from App Store
