ooo nice - crazy how there’s still territory like this that’s still possibly unexplored. working on an fm patch rn.

have you tired implementing fm feedback in max ? unsurprisingly sending cycle~ output into number~ then back in yields no results, but some max forum ppl were talking about an implementation in gen~

if you send it through a send~/receive~ pair, you can do some feedback FM stuff, since those will automatically add a delay.

I actually didn’t attempt feedback FM for my so-close-yet-so-far-from-finished project… I think this is because I took Bristow–Chowning’s viewpoint (“feedback helps you turn an FM wave into more of a sawtooth!”) a bit at face value—if my carrier waves are triangles and pulses, I actually have plenty of those harmonics to begin with, and there are already other ways in the synth of making a very noisy sound that I’m more interested in.

In gen~ it should be a little more straightforward! the history object gives you a single-sample delay, allowing for feedback connections.

There should be a feedback fm patch in the c74 gen~ examples

it’s fun to add arbitrary delay times to fm/pm feedback with delay~ or tapin~/tapout~

Found in the wild (aka by my apt in SF) the other day:

My wife asked what I was so excited about. Explaining didn’t seem to do much for me, but she supported my enthusiasm.

sooo much progress today, my brain still catching up but i am currently playing with my favorite treasured old raja patch IN LIVE RN!!!

ive gotten past the other questions just by forcing through somehow.

i obviously don’t know what i’m doing… but the code is working!!! dragging things hither and yon.

edit for pic:

my question biggest atm is: presentation view twofold…

a. how to rename an object and have it stay that way
b. how to just have the presentation view show up so the patch isn’t a hideous mutant baby between max and live files. OPEN IN PRESENTATION

the biggest thank you’s to @andrew @dan_derks erks, @Rodrigo and sadly missing @RABID raja

we are making progress. not without a fight d/t my complete foolishness. MUSIC WILL BE MADE

AHHH super exciting @dude, looks like progress has been great. and don’t worry, It seems like max/msp has been engineered to make us all feel like idiots, I’ve been fighting it for years. lots of poor design choices imo, but a powerful tool.

might have to elaborate on this one

THIS bit is annoying and not explained by the tutorials:

under the “i” on the right side

hit the diamond “P” at the top

42%20PM

scroll down and check “Open in Presentation”

00%20PM

now for the controls in your patcher you want to see, right click and select “Add to Presentation”. those will show up down here in presentation mode

36%20PM

as well as in your m4l device

bonus: “View > Set device width” lets you drag to change the width of your device

(mods if ya got a minute this might live a lil better in the general max/msp thread)

omg @andrew tysm!!! as i was searching and trying, you were typing all that and i could see you typing and it was pushing me to dig deeper. y’all r amazing. so i got this far:
37%20PM

and what i mean about the renaming is: how can i get the level to just say “lvl” rather than live.gain…?

@dude + @andrew: migrated your posts to this thread. this is very exciting!

RIGHT, yes, also a weird one - it’s also under the “i”/inspector menu as “Long Name” and “Short Name” I generally set both.

ok so @andrew literally helping me cross items off bucket list.

i’ve been using this beautiful patch for years always thinking it should just be within live and couldn’t ever fathom how to make that happen.

praise u and this place!

i don’t honestly know how it senses my grid… but it does

i feel quite sure i have broken rules/conventions lol but this shit works (4 me)

next will be the monolase, then the chocolate grinder

would recommend adding the serialosc object to presentation if you weren’t already planning on it !

that’s part of what i was trying to ask before, the object looks blank, and yet somehow mysteriously works despite looking unpopulated. so if i did include it… i don’t know how useful it would be.

save a copy of what you have working, but did you try replacing it with the one from the monome package as per advice in other thread ? maybe the subpatcher is just missing the interface

it is saved but somehow i missed that part of advice. my brain is pulpy after the days work. i was just happy getting it to look cute and work. i will try once i’m recharged

likeaprayer
andrew will take u there

Is there a listing of objects somewhere or a book, that organizes them in functional groupings with short descriptions? I think I’ve got a good idea of many objects, but their names are not very descriptive and I’m sure I’m overlooking using many of them.

the reference has ‘max object functional listing’ and ‘msp object functional listing’ (which I just found out)

I’ve gotten back into the ppooll with max 8. I’ve really missed it. A shame that some of the spectral manipulation plugins are not present due to the object it was based on not existing ina 64bit version.

Anyone get into the MUBU package? I’m just going through the helpfiles (after noodling around with CataRt a few years back) and am pretty blown away by the depth and possibilities…

I used it in one of the iterations of Block Party, and after everything broke with a minor update, I decided to abandon it since I didn’t want to have to deal with that in the future.

It does do some cool stuff, but wasn’t worth the risk to me.
