Brief update per Instagram:

The pictured WP is Prototype 4, “approaching production”. Meng Qi adds in a response:

“it’s banana, also as slim as the mini jack version, I have updated its output jack construction.”

Ha! I was just about to post this now that I’m back home in Melbourne and catching up on online things…

The Wing Pinger sounds beautiful, and flows very easily from lovely and melodic to more chaotic and noisy. This is something that will definitely reward practice and time getting to know it and it’s different sweet spots. It was really fun interfacing it with eurorack and there is a lot to explore. After seeing its potential, and getting some personal demo from Meng Qi himself as he was tweaking the circuit, I am very interested in getting one myself, as a standalone instrument and extension of other instruments. Its minimal aesthetics and playability are inspiring. A small euro skiff or Serge system would be excellent for dynamic live performance.

A couple more photos I took in Meng Qi’s studio:

Thanks again to Meng Qi for his time! Really cool and interesting guy.

the new interface looks amazing, I’m really curious to see where @MengQiMusic settles in terms of interaction for the final instrument…

I am even more curious about the ultimate price for both editions. Also hopeful to hear some more fulsome demonstrations including use of the various external signaling options. OK, I’ll take anything I can get at this point, I’ve been refreshing this thread hourly for weeks.

There was a Wing Pinger update (of sorts) on the Instagram last night - a bit cryptic, but some lovely circuitboard shots.

PS: I’m still alive, woo.

It should be 10am Eastern Standard if the Berlin and Beijing times are correct (daylight savings time).

Also I’m stoked for this!

I really need a block diagram of this thing. It’s clearly got Lyra-like levels of arcane interconnectedness. Sounds like it has lots of beautiful sounds and modulations on tap!

Or watch later, tomorrow. It’s a really nice instrument. No indication of price as yet though.
