This is absolutely incredible, this instrument (in the most precious meaning of the term) is a wonderful accomplishment. Wish I could get one someday, but I’m just happy I’ll get to hear people make music with it really.

This beauty turned up this afternoon. I made a live broadcast on my Instagram channel with my first play of it and it’s and an extraordinary instrument. I’ll be returning to it this weekend and making a few videos which I’ll share with you. Certainly well worth waiting for - it’s simply beautiful!

Yeah I wish for a cheaper non-keyboard version too. Not really interested in built-in chromatic keyboard, even though it most likely is more interesting as a control surface than “just” a keyboard. I really like the concept and sound, and banana version without a keyboard for around 1000€ would most likely find it’s way to my desk.

Right. My own preference would be Euro version w/o keyboard, and then we reach this market limitation of how many options it’s really possible for a small-scale manufacturer to provide. Going banana w/ keyboard is doubling down on the small-market, single-instrument (or companion to one or two other banana pieces) sort of angle, which is part of what keeps Meng Qi’s business operating, to use monome parlance, “at human scale.”

I’m glad this piece exists and am stimulated by its existence, whether or not it’s in the ideal form for me personally, and whether or not I will ever own one.

I think he said it will be available with 3.5mm jacks too. Even if you did get the banana version, format jumbling isn’t that crazy to do.

Initially I think the plan was to do both, but looking over the site pretty carefully yesterday, it doesn’t look like this is the plan any longer (all reference to 3.5 mm have been removed, and any use of “patch cable” or “patch point” has been replaced by “banana cable” or “banana jack”). Esp. with the new companion Wingie, offering so many different products doesn’t seem likely. This is totally reasonable, and I may swing for one anyway (in fact, tried to preorder one a few weeks ago).

Good reminder re: jumbling!

Schneidersladen still has both banana and euro version up, but it could just be that they haven’t updated it yet.

Did you get yous from Schneiders or directly from Meng?

I had ordered one from Schneiders when they said they would get 5 banana and 5 cv versions. I was supposed to get one banana but had not heard from them yet.

I got this direct from Meng Qi, and he offered me a version with either Eurorack or Banana connections, of which I chose the latter.

This afternoon I made a little live performance on Instagram using it to filter some Lorre Mill instruments too so if you want to take a listen you can easily find it there. Happy listening if you get the chance!

I had the opportunity to play a little more with the Wing Pinger today and thought you guys might enjoy a gentle ambience to begin your week - this is truly a revelatory instrument indeed!

Keep these coming Mr. R. I’m very curious to hear another’s perspective of this machine. It seems like it can do double-duty as a processor of sound as well as a sound source. What does the touch keyboard bring to the overall system?

Happy to, of course. I recorded a couple more videos to upload today actually, which I’ll do in the next days. I used it to process the Lorre Mill Double Knot in a live video on Instagram at the weekend which you can watch back on my account if you wish.

The touch keyboard allows you to actually enter these notes and latch them as necessary too and change the octaves of the notes. One keyboard can be high, the other low for example. And it makes it more into an instrument in a sense too

And, as promised, another little experiment today. This time using a couple of guitar pedals in tandem. I hope you might enjoy the little sounds within

Damn this is sounds like the ultimate sample/noise making sound machine.

I could listen to this for hours.
Going to play it looped and see when it will become repetitive.

Do you know the cv range that the wingpinger accepts and is safe to use with?
-10vto 10v, -5v to +5v, 0-5v or 0-10v?

Thanks for listening!
I honestly don’t know the CV ranges within this at all. Best to check with Meng Qi I think now!
