Hello all, I’m searching for a certain feature in a midi foot controller and I’m curious if anyone here knows if something like it exists.

I’m looking for a midi foot controller with 8-12 switches where, per switch, you can send either different note or CC values depending on if you tap the switch versus hold it for a short amount of time, say 1/2 a second. The tap and hold behaviors would be simultaneously available without having to toggle any settings on the foot controller.

It would be fine for the “tap” value to be sent on the initial touch (vs the release) and the “hold” value to be sent shortly after, if kept depressed.

Is anyone aware of such a controller?

Keith McMillan SoftStep is highly configurable, so can do what need; Maybe even the 12 Step (this one I don’t have so not sure)

Awesome thanks - just reading up on it and it does seem to have quite a few functions per switch. I’m a bit weirded out by the soft switches though and would greatly prefer harder switches. Any other products come to mind?

If you want, I could build you something custom with softstep switches and teensy… DM me and we can chat about it. Or if you’re in the mood for a DIY project I’d be happy to help you with it.

This is quite tempting. If I can’t find the right solution out of products that are available I will reach out to you.

The Morningistar has less switches but it just might do the job with the additional actions per switch. Good find!

bumping this with curiosity about the morningstar…

@Prnts: did you ever try one?

There aren’t many MIDI foot controllers. I use the FCB1010 on stage for lack of other similar options. As far as tap vs hold, you could write a simple max patch to handle that.

I have not yet gotten my hands on one
