Herne Hill! My old stomping ground.

I own an SSL SiX and have been really pleased with it so far, but I wouldn’t consider myself an expert. I’m out of town right now but would volunteer to do some test recordings if there are specific things you all would like to hear.

I’ve been thinking about picking one of these up. One thing I’ve been wondering about though is Tom’s description of the stereo panning as “not hard left/right split but more like a 10 o’clock / 2 o’clock spread”. Have you noticed that as being a particularly pronounced effect?

Maximal minimal? :star_struck:

This has become my stereo mixing set up for my euro system, which came out of the desire to create a simple yet flexible way to mix Just Type synthesis in a stereo field. The basic signal flow thus far has been the six outs of Just Friends into Nearness / stereo out into the Pico Vca for additional dynamics modulation / stereo out into Worng LRMS to process the mid and side signals with two different filters / tanh on the filter returns to add grit and balance levels. I also find myself using Cold Mac to crossfade two inputs of Nearness, or to crossfade between different filters for the mid/side signals. I think I’m going to throw in Ears as an envelope follower to create compression / expansion effects with the Pico Vca, but overall I’m really happy with this setup.

EDIT: I guess a sound sample would be warranted. This one doesn’t use the Pico Vca but everything else is used as described, the two main melodies being cross panned into the outter most channels of Nearness, the bassline bouncing between the closer inputs.

Yeah, Just Friends in sound mode + Nearness is great. The patch I have now has 4 JF outs panned using Nearness and the mix out from JF mixed with other things (braids in flute mode processed by Rings) and then sent to a delay with an Ultrafold in the feedback loop (that module does wonderful things to any sound it can get) then stereo-ified with a PicoDSP’s reverb (and mixed with my output module, Bastl Ciao), and having the unprocessed panned notes in addition to the rest is really nice…

Just found out about this one and I like the concept of just having independent levels for the two outputs for certain uses. Not a fan of the knobless trimmers (that actually is likely a deal breaker for me) and it has to be seen if it’s playable having to turn two knobs at the same time for stereo signals.

I’ve been looking at it too, and thought about chaining two, to get a an effect send as well.
I really like the work they put into the modules, in regard to expanding, and clever hidden functions,.

Bu I agree, would be good with 4 extra hp, and some PT Rogan knobs.

I actually just ordered one of these yesterday to uses as an effects send. I’ve got a Worng Sound Stage on order, and I still want to manage effects.

Let me know how you like it. I’m mostly interested in knowing how transparent the thing is.

Just ran into this, it’s for sale (site is in Dutch) figured it might be of interest to some

Don’t think I’ve posted this favourite of mine: loud boost/mixer with, amazingly, a 2nd inverted output! Seems to run forever from one 9v. Lots of possibilities in pedal feedback setups.

this new Ladik mixer looks interesting/confusing.

Inputs are basically “equal gain” but if some inputs are not used gain ratio for used inputs is changed due normalling (signal from upper jacks is copied to lower inputs). There is simple rule: more empty jacks below = increased gain. As example: if inputs 1 and 4 (or inputs 3 and 5 or inputs 5 and 6) are used only then they will be about same level (same number of empty jacks under jacks used). If inputs 2 and 5 are used then input 2 will be slightly stronger than input 5 (two empty jacks below “1”, one empty below “5”). If inputs 1 and 6 will be used only then input 1 will be much stronger than input 6 (more empty inputs below “1”). If signals should be mixed at equal level (say 4 oscillators for polyphony) higher inputs should be used (for 4 sources at same level use inputs 3, 4, 5 and 6. Repatching signal from input 3 to input 2 makes this signal stronger or repatching to input 1 even more stronger than others). If all 6 inputs are used their levels will be same.

Very similar to the principals of the Warm Star Fragment

This new EHX pedal seems like it could be quite useful https://www.ehx.com/products/tri-parallel-mixer

Whoa, isn’t that what a Klein Bottle does?

Looking at them both, the EHX pedal doesn’t appear to have the routing and feedback capabilities of the Klein Bottle. However the EHX does look, ah, “inspired by” the Klein Bottle.

Hmm I wasn’t aware of the Klein Bottle before! The functionalities definitely overlap, the big difference is that the Klein Bottle has the routing and the bandpass filters, whereas the EHX model has the switching mode, and a bit more control over levels. It does seem they took the concept of the klein bottle and adapted it for the needs of guitarists (for a third of the price), but the filters and feedback are definitely more interesting to me…

I’m not sure that this totally qualifies as minimal, but it is sorta minimal in a maximal way. I hardly use it any more, but maybe it is time to dust it off for Modular to tape duties.
