Hot. Cassette decks with nice VUs are a pretty common sight at thrift stores still—scavenging some could be a good look for a personal mixer project.

how is the noise with this unit?

So far it seems quiet. I have not had all 4 channels going at once yet. But for the price build quality and minimal foot print on my work area I am very pleased so far.

(About the toppobrillo stereo mix):

Bumping this comment for truth. Still I’m intrigued enough to spin by Control Voltage today to give it a whirl.

Anyone played with one in person?

you can do something frames like with levels on ansible - instead of ‘frames’ you have patterns (sets of 4 values) that you can switch or ‘morph’ between (using the slew option), you just need 4 VCAs.

Don’t really want to start a new thread over this, so let me try here:

can anyone suggest a module that is a simple stereo mixer with something like a send and return, preferably with adjustable gains, although unity is okay too?

Think something like a Rosie without the headphone out, or a tiny Dubmix.

Smallest hp possible.

not so minimal, but the koma poltergeist is pretting darn interesting… so interesting that i’ve ordered one (koma is offering free shipping until mid-december, i think). a bit of a different paradigm, generally. it’s weird that the largest knobs are the pan knobs, but i think it suggests some interesting ways to work with vcas.

anyone using one of these? thoughts?

looks neat. is that a passive matrix mixer?

Looks like a Xiwi.

Yep! It is Xiwi. It’s really fun. This one actually had a little issue with one of the pots, so Brendan is sending me another one to replace. Super nice!

Awesome! Stoked you finally got your hands on this (even though you’re waiting on a replacement)

Any tips for cheap simple mini mixers?

I bet you could pick one of these up for 50 quid online: http://www.soundcraft.com/en-US/products/notepad-124

there is also a 102 version.

I had a 124 for years, very capable, nice eq.

There’s a wonderful minimalist aesthetic to the current Sonosax recording gear :

I know this is a different beast but:

  • compact three channels
  • 3 x Level, 3 x Pan, 1 x Master, 1 x Headphone
  • Inputs: 3 x Stereo/Mono
  • Outputs: Stereo Output, Headphone
  • Size: 143 x 92 x 45 mm
  • Weight: 0,59 kg

Should have a beautiful design like the Aleph though…
