Every time I see this topic I think I should take a picture of Mike Mixer. I finally did, so here’s Mike Mixer. I have no recollection of where I got him, probably Goodwill.

He sounds pretty great. I remember there were only two transistors inside. What I know about analog circuit design can fit inside an Altoids tin, but if you have an amplifier with only one transistor, doesn’t that mean it has to be class A?

My friend Chris and I took him to the beach one time and recorded acid jams with some battery-powered synths for a couple of days. That was a clean recording. No AC around for miles.

“Transistorized Stereo” sounds like a great name for an album!

Don’t want to take this thread too off course, but I’ve been wondering something for a while now. Do you have music released somewhere? Would really love to hear some battery powered acid beach jams of yours if they’re out there somewhere

I’ve got one of those!

This music exists and is kind of good in a year 2000 time capsule kind of way. I don’t think anyone would want to release it though. I should start a bandcamp for personal projects maybe?

I put up a track: http://scribble.farm/corvid-and-canid/

In general I’m bad about getting my ambient / experimental music documented. I focus on shows and then I’m back to programming.

Here’s a passive “weighted mixer” by Olegtron: http://olegtron.com/r2r.php. For non-Eurorack uses too I suppose.

Picked this up off Craigslist today. Luckily there is a workaround to enable it to function on macOS Sierra. Wanted something to use with grainfields 8 inputs. Perfect!

Reallt dope track!
I’d fully support your descion to start a Bandcamp. Take your time though, wouldn’t want it to get in the way of your programming duties. Are your shows pretty exclusive to the Seattle area?

Edit: p.s. awesome blog you got there

Just snagged this on eBay (one just like it) for under $40 shipped. I want something portable and battery powered although I think this uses an obscene amount of batteries. We will see.

That thing is a beauty!

I found one of those at a thrift store years ago. I’ve been thinking of turning it into a midi fader box but it’s so nice as is that I can’t bring myself to do it.

The small black faders next to the actual faders are apparently just “markers” so you can remember settings. They serve no other purpose. They would be ideal for this sort of use if you could replace them with actual sliders. You’d have both.

Returning to this thread, because I’m in need of a small mixer for the studio again (been working without one for the last few years). Really seems like there’s no perfect option out there

I know it isn’t as sexy as a lot of suggestions in this thread, but the little Mackies are built like tanks and versatile. What sorts of features are necessary for your mixer?

I feel like the quality of Mackies has gone down in the last few years, but the 802vlz model basically meets my minimum needs: I really like it’s alt/mute bus. The A&H Zed10 is option too I guess, but the record out on RCA weirds me out for some reason.

Yeah, I keep coming back to the 1202 VLZ4 as a likely mixer upgrade for me. As for features, I want mute/solo and more than one aux.

The dimensions for the 1202 are 10.7" x 11.9". The 3" height is gonna require me to move some shelves around, but so be it.

I have no need for that many inputs, but the smaller ones don’t have the combination of mute, solo, and multiple aux (“auxes” “auxi”?).

yeah. i have an 802vlz3 and i don’t have any complaints. the vlz4 seems weird to me (maybe because of the knob change/color scheme) but i haven’t really used one to know if there is any real difference.
if the 802 has two sends it would be pretty much ideal for my normal uses.

It’s exactly the same but the knobs/pots feel cheaper and the metal casing feels flimsier. Seems to sound the same, however, from limited experience.

Yamaha MG12 or a Soundcraft EPM would get you two sends. Those Yamahas have nice specs in terms of routing options, but I don’t know anyone who uses them so I assume they’re bad.
