Just saw that Roland announced this mini mixer:

Somehow, despite it having minimal function, they managed to make it not minimal in design.

Speck Electronics posted this and a few other photos on their facebook page yesterday. I’m guessing that once Winter NAMM is underway they’ll post more information about this classy new rack mixer.

I saw that this morning too.

I’m curious to see how they envision it best used. I wonder if it’s optomized to work with a Lilo as a kind of “in line” mixer expansion pack, in conjunction with their dual input/dual group function. Placed in line from various sources to the B input of the Lilo, you’d gain individual fader control over all the B group inputs, expanding the flexibilty of the entire system; essentially putting a fader on all 32 input channels of a physical 16 channel board.

Err…sounds confusing, but that would make sense.

I don’t see it pairing so usefully with their existing line level mixer. It would be an expensive way of adding linear faders, and just more circuitry for your signal to pass through.

Curious!

EDIT: combined with some of their individual EQ and pre modules (or any line in/out units frankly), you could have a super cool, ultra minimal mixer.

Maybe it’s just that simple. Forget my Lilo overthinking.

EDIT EDIT: as an owner of their long-discontinued 16 channel semi-parametric EQ, this would be a BRILLIANT mate for that!

It sure looks a lot like this, and I’m guessing it does a similar thing.

Yeah, I see where you’re coming from. This mixer doesn’t seem to be an add-on to their current product line, rather a new product with a simplified feature set. For example, features like polarity reverse, solo, and mute are just as easily done in the DAW, so why increase the price by adding these features one can live without?

Consoles are so difficult to get right, as everyone wants more of somethings and less of others to accommodate their individual workflow. Some want more auxes and busses, some want three monitor outputs. .

Personally, I like the idea of a stripped down console like this where I would actually use every knob and fader, and have a master section with a single monitor output. Everything you need, and nothing you don’t. No mediocre headphone amp either. The DAW, a patchbay, and a mixer like this would, for many, create a beautifully simplistic workflow.

Likely made by Sovtek as is the same (I assume) as this one by EHX: h

I think the Koma mixer is even closer to this.

It’s minimal, for a console, but not really that minimal

Now the interesting thing here is that the owner asked on muffs if anyone wanted them to design anything and I don’t think they got a response…
They do really, really cool shit. Their pwm stereo comp is supposed to be amazing and it was 500euro for a complete kit at one stage…

So there’s an opportunity here to request them to make whatever we want - a monome mixer (whatever, if anything, that actually means somthing)

I’ve spoken to them over the years and they’re great guys with top quality stuff

this one seems kind of interesting

Uhm: Did you catch that this mixer has “Loop In / Loop Out” connectors that bus the inputs to multiple mixers in series, each getting their own mix output!!! As in, you can use them as personal headphone mixes in a group setting… or you could use it to create as many aux buses as you want!

That’s a nifty little thing. If I were a Pocket Operator/Volca user, I think I’d be really eager to see it manufactured. But, can’t imagine there’s much use for anyone who isn’t a PO/Volca user.

This Nagra mixer on eBay has my interest piqued…

See I think something like this would kill if it where made properly and for a reasonable price. The most expensive parts would be transformers, fancy pots, meters

Is there nothing in the sub $1000 with 8-16 channels, few sends?
