Oh man, new fantasy gear crush…

Not minimal, relatively speaking, but certainly… focused. I don’t see many of these come up for sale - I know there are at least a few X-Desk users here. I want this so bad (and an X-Desk).

ah yes, yet another piece of unattainable gear i’ve dreamed about finally finding, and it’ s from a seller in chile with no other sales or feedback who says they can’t send any other pictures because their commune is under quarantine. sigh…

If it makes you feel any better, Google Image Search doesn’t turn up anything for that photo. Suspect as it is, it’s an odd choice of gear to list.

Sick! I wish I had the cross fader jawn on mine!

I’m looking for a standalone eurorack mixer - something with a few mono/stereo channels ins, and a main + headphone out. But as a separate powered unit, not a module. Does that exist?

I’ve been using the soundcraft notepad for this use case and I’ve been pretty happy with it. I wish it had 2 fx sends (only has one) but its not really a huge deal. Reasonably priced too…

I was thinking of something quite a bit smaller, that is specifically for eurorack levels. Most of the time I use an ES8 for mixing everything, but sometimes I don’t want to turn on the computer…

Looks like a nice unit though : )

I go straight out of my Serge and Bugbrand systems into the soundcraft mixer and it handles them well. Also, I’ve never used it, but it is also an audio interface, so if you want to record the mix to your computer, you wouldnt have to unplug everything etc…

I have a mackie 402vlz4 which is truly tiny, about the size of a large guitar pedal.
It’s actually a 6 channel mixer as it has a “tape” input with level. Only 2 pre amps and eq only on these channels too.
As an output from a modular it’s great. I mix in Volca and eurorack with it.

Been looking into that mixer also, what are your typical routing for it?

it depends on the patch really, but usually the setup is at least:

R+L outs from the Serge stereo out go into their own mono channels on the Notepad. That leaves mono channels 3 + 4 free for other synths or whathaveyou. I then usually have Norns stereo outs patched into stereo channel 7+8. It has a mono aux send, which I patch into an outboard mini patchbay thingy from boredbrain. I use that to split the signal to the Norns, and the other to outboard FX like Reverb, delay etc. I usually leave my Reverb stereo outs as dedicated inputs to the mixers stereo aux return.

This leaves a lot of flexibility still. Free for use are mono inputs 3 + 4, and there another stereo input 5+6.

What about the WMD Performance mixer in a 4ms Pod40?

The WMD performance mixer is probably the ultimate eurorack mixer. Only minus points are the size and costs if you add an extra case. Headroom is also limited so most people who play techno with it use a highpass filter in order to get their kick right.

I’m bummed they didn’t include a basic 3-band EQ or something, the same way Befaco has their Hexmix. Didn’t realize re: headroom and HPFing though.

After years of trying to get mixing right I haven’t found anything that even comes close to a standard Mackie/Soundcraft/Allen&Heath. They all work find with modular levels, are a tiny fraction of the cost of modular mixers, and have way more features and routing.

You can get a used Mackie 1202 for about $100… good eq, 12 channels with mutes, two effect sends, two output busses…

Unless it absolutely has to be in the eurorack for some reason then a regular table top mixer is hard to beat.

couldn’t agree more, the mackie micro series 1202 is a fantastic mixer. you can also use the alt outputs on the back to modulate parameters in your rack with a 1/4 to 1/8 cable. was messing around with that today going into an envelope follower(cold mac) with some promising results . the tape in is essentially an extra stereo in as well if you have some rca to 1/8 adapters. the only thing with that is you don’t get the eqing/aux sends but it does come in handy.

Re-arranging my studio and I need a little submixer for two synths. Looking for something with 2 pairs of stereo 1/4” inputs. Smaller and more minimal the better, but that’s been surprisingly hard to find! Everything seems to have either only mono inputs, or has RCA or 1/8” inputs instead of 1/4”.
I think the closest I’ve found is the Mackie 402, which will definitely work but seems like a bit of overkill. Any other suggestions?

Can’t speak to the quality but I do like its aesthetic.

There’s a part of me that wishes that more minimal mixers don’t have XLR in’s and mic pre’s - just to save a bit on the physical space… Or at least have combo jacks
