I got one of these for xmas last year because i had the same draw you did, that said, I don’t use it as much as I should :<

I could see making it the heart of a super compact rig though…
hmmm.

Everyone’s getting in on the 4 channel eurorack mixer module game now:

My choice in eurorack 4 channel mixer module:

Edit: Although, having watched the video now, I really like the modularity of the new Doepfer design.

These mix modules are all beautiful, but they seem weird to me. First, they’re super expensive for the functionality. Second, they’re taking up precious space in a case that could otherwise be used for more specialized modules. Small mixers are so cheap and durable, I guess it’s inevitable some people will dig all these modules, but just seems weird.

I think the point is that they have CV control. Actually, that’s the point of all modular for me!
Sure, you can control elements of an external mixer with CV (level for example) if you have enough VCAs. But for things like panning it’s not so easy.
I agree they are often expensive though - probably because they have lots of VCAs in the modules.

Yeah, that makes sense what you say about the CV input element. I mean, if the variables that I mentioned weren’t factors in my decision making, I sure would pounce on the Koma mixer IMMEDIATELY (but I’d have to buy a 2nd case first! )

As long as I’m a school-teacher, I’ll be content to just use a little Mackie instead.

For me the fantasy is about having 4 aux sends in a small mixer like a Mackie 1402 or something. Most recently, I’ve abandoned a traditional mixer and got a Xiwi passive matrix mixer that allows me to route 4 voices on my modular straight into my Octatrack. If I get the OP1 or my voice back in the mix, that immediately will be much more limiting though. I’m sure the Xiwi has popped up above, but just in case it was missed:

It’s a cool little dude. Definitely minimal!

Yeah, I absolutely love my ADDAC 802. It’s the heart of my little rig. The CV control is key to it.

This guy is taunting me on eBay… We’ll see if it’s still around when I come back from vacation…

havent seen one on this thread yet, but I recently built one of these bastl ABCs

super handy 6 in, 2 out mixer with jumpers to normalize each pair. so minimal and helpful. love it.

There’s something about bastl’s whole aesthetic and approach that just warms my heart.

They do seem like a bunch of lovable goofballs, I think that helps.

I would only use them in a big system (say 12u maybe?) where I had delineated mini systems and/or voices…

That e-bay horror…

So I’m having a bit of a problem with my samson mix pad mixer (not super minimal but bear with me). When I move the fader for the fourth channel on it, the main out ends up getting blasted with noise. It’s made the mixer neigh unusable because I’m afraid of accidentally hitting it and blowing out my spearkers or headphones. Does anyone know what might cause this? I’m probably going to try and crack it open this weekend to see if there’s and dirt inside that might be causing it, but I’m sort of at wits end with it all.

I got to meet a handful of them at last weeks Machines in Music [modular thing in nyc] – can confirm, lovable goofballs and sweethearts.

i feel like that mixer has all the right things going for it except for the layout.
the controls feel like they should be flipped upside down and i wish all the jacks would be grouped together at the top so you don’t have to squeeze your hands between two rows of cables to use any of the knobs.
so close yet so far.

I’m constantly shoving my hands between cables so it wouldn’t ever bother me, but point taken. So many attempts at eurorack stereo mixers in the last few years and I still haven’t really seen one that screams “you definitely need this” - would only get one to tie a very large system together

I mean look at this thing… you’re going to need a lot of synth to make good use of it.
