Is there any audio on that video? You can contact SSL customer support I’m sure that does seem pretty strange.

I did contact SSL, they’re the ones who wanted a video of it. They put me over to my vendor, where it was past warranty (bought in the end of year sale last December). SSL is working to issue me an RMA now.

There isn’t audio with that video, but the meters are accurate through all the outputs.

Just ordered a used Saffire 56 to replace my 8 year Saffire 40. Really wanted one of those back in the day and figured it would go well with my 8 year old system. Ballin’ out in 2020, at least there’s some silver lining.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap, small USB interface ideally with decent ASIO divers just to use for monitoring in an ITB set-up?

I had more or less settled on a Native Instruments Traktor Audio 2, but wondered if I’d missed any good alternatives.

I’ve just bought an ssl 2 and am really liking it. I bought it more for the preamps, but it is also nice to use for itb work. Not sure of asio - as on mac.

What would be the best mixer/audio interface combo all in one with 8-10 inputs for modular synth, analog synths and guitar?

That would depend a lot on how you defined “best” and “all in one”.

Let’s say all in one, I was thinking about allen & heath

I think the Keith McMillan K mix has a phenomenal featureset and quality VS cost ratio. Providing you can get along with the touch faders and/or are happy using a mouse with the app.

I bit expensive and no, don’t really like touchfaders and apps to much but thanks

See, you’re already moving the goal posts. Not clear whether you just want to record the stereo master or whether you expect multitrack recording. Many other variables, too. If you are seeking an analog mixing console with a built in multitrack audio interface, then your options are few: possibly just Tascam, Presonus and Soundcraft. Allen & Heath has a USB interface card for one of their mixer lines, but I’m not sure how available it is, and I recall it gets pricey. Note that each design has workflow implications.

Yes, I am looking for a mixer that could help me record on multitrack, that’s the main thing I need. I will look into those you mentioned thanks a lot

If you’re looking at Allen & Heath, I think you’d need a ZED-14 to record that many tracks. I have a ZEDi-10 and it records to 4 over USB (which has me considering a switch to a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 for more tracks).

Wow, @Gexex I wasn’t aware of those mixers since I haven’t had a need to look into anything like that in a while but that’s pretty good value. 4 inputs with multiple routing options? I guess I feel like an old man but you’d have x4 that price 10 years ago and the routing wouldn’t be flexible at all.

@WhiteNoise I remember drooling over the ZedR16 and Mackie 1640i back in the day because of the multitrack FireWire and they were both in the $2k range. The Tascam Model series with USB also seems appealing on that front but getting 8 channels of I/O for less that $500 would be a tall order. At least it’s way more feasible than it was in 2010.

I think the ZED14 is just a 2in/2out USB interface, right? I don’t think it actually does multi-tracking.

also, I might be misremembering, but while the mixer part of the ZED14 is apparently quite good, I’m not sure that the audio interface quality is nearly as good. maybe @glia or @n-So could comment on that.

Sorry, my mistake, checking the manual, it may just be a l/r usb interface.

correct

have not really used that feature since i have a soundcard with more ports and better conversion specs

i like the looks of the new tascam mixers tbh, and they’ve got built in recorders, all that good tascam stuff you’ve come to expect, the 12 is minty https://tascam.com/us/product/model_12/top

As I think I’ve said in this thread, I dig my tascam model 12 a lot. It has 10 inputs (the last “2” in the 12 are the mixed track). It’s really nice to be able to record and route without a computer, and it can also be used as an interface when you do want to use a computer). The 12 can also be used as a midi interface/control surface for a DAW and can sync with other sequencers, etc. It’s a lot of functionality and you can find them used for around $500. The Motu ultralite series can also sort of be used as a standalone mixer (though it’s controlled through software).

Just ordered a MOTU UltraLite AVB - a pretty big interface upgrade for me since I’ve always used mixers with USB outs. I’ve never sent cv from computer to euro, but since I’ll now have that option, I’m interested to explore.

What sort of cables are needed to send cv from the MOTU outs to euro? Would this require floating ring cables (such as are used to send cv out of euro into a pedal’s expression input)?
