can you expand a bit on how you’re managing that exactly? new to norns/mlr. also @tehn mlr is an incredible sampling engine with so many textural possibilities. such an incredible design thank you!

Perhaps the bottom row on the clip page could be a clip length editor for the selected track… maybe symmetrical glyphs to trim the start / end points, two squares for coarse and one for fine, then a button in the center to create a real-time start/stop clip length like a looping pedal.

Kinda sounds like it might be a lot to pack at the bottom of that page but I could see those functions being useful.

Load a specific time length .wav file that you have upload as a clip. Then you’d have this time allocated to the buffer and you can record on top of it.

ahhh great idea thanks!

hi @tehn wondering if it’s possible to add a lfo to each clip to modulate panning/slew?

I would love if there was a option for MLR that you could program the speeds in semitone or notes. Im often wishing i could bring in the 5th notes and giving up some octaves. Something like hitting alt and the speed button to bring up a menu on norn or some sort of scale system like ansible has.

+1 for semitone page

Yes! Had this on my mind for quite some time. I’d love to see a “speed settings” parameter where one can choose between “unquantized” (to keep the original function) and a selection of scales.

that’s an interesting idea— an alt page with a configurable scale perhaps? that way a whole bunch of loops could be played like a mellowtron sortof…

This would be really cool!

Okay let me get weird for a second… what if crow CV inputs could then shift MLR speeds as a group? Send a sequence into Crow and then boom, you’re “playing” MLR?

This is actually the idea for a super basic recorder / sampler thing I wanted to make but can’t because time/knowledge is lacking, where you’d basically record a loop MLR style, but then, plug in a keyboard, and you can play it like a synth except the sequence doesn’t reset on each note you play like they do in most sampler. So yeah that’d be great to have that inside MLR!

i Keep finding myself wanting tracks to trigger each other meadowphysics style. So as a track gets to the end of its row (or loop as another option) it triggers/resets another track from its start point (or end if playing in reverse). Just a thought

Finally figured MLR out, thanks to that informal video by @tehn earlier in this thread.
I just posted a video of my latest jam with it in the performance section if anybody wants to see it in action. ( https://youtu.be/TqMddjym9Es )
Main breakthrough for me was figuring out the quantise function and midi sync so I have it looping in time with the Elektron Model Sample.
Only sync’s one way though -right? Norns must be the Master.
Would be great if Norns could also sync to a Master Clock externally though.
One thing that doesn’t seem to work though is the ‘Quant Div’ control. No matter what I do there is no change to anything by adjusting this control. Is that a bug then?
Other than that MLR is absolutely brilliant. Thx.

I’m using the non varybright 64 version of mlr ( thanks! @noiserock) with a DIY shield.
I can’t do anything with the clip page…
I’m not able to load a wav file from the tape folder. Maybe I just don’t understand the function of this page…
Any help?

You need to load using button 2(you can also change the function with enc2), and then find whatever sample you wanna use. Then select with btn3. Enjoy!

So this will work
I just did what you explain with maiden open:

Blockquotefile > /home/we/dust/audio/tape/0002.wav 2
lua:
/home/we/dust/code/custom64/mlr64.lua:818: attempt to call a nil value (global ‘sound_file_inspect’)
stack traceback:
/home/we/dust/code/custom64/mlr64.lua:818: in function ‘fileselect.callback’
/home/we/norns/lua/lib/fileselect.lua:50: in function ‘fileselect.exit’
/home/we/norns/lua/lib/fileselect.lua:122: in function ‘fileselect.key’
/home/we/norns/lua/core/menu.lua:139: in function </home/we/norns/lua/core/menu.lua:116>
thanks for the interest!

The script probably needs an update. I’ll see if I can make time later to fix this. Sorry about that(I am currently mainly using a 128).

Don’t have time to test myself right now.

I don’t know what to say… This is just working. Thank you!

No problem! But the real thanks should go to @tehn and @okyeron. I’m just the 64 janitor
