Wow, thanks for this. (I crossposted) Lots of great tricks here beyond the speed. I didn’t know you could trigger using the white jack and also self modulate with orange to blue. This thing continues to surprise me.

Try everything into everywhere haha. Modulating the avdog/gong verso/inverso changes the “shape” of their cv outs. Have fun!

yeah that’s amazing! great tip. would love to see more of these types of videos too.

Glad to share discoveries! On the PB here’s example of Meng Qi Arcade Manifold to trigger and modulate verso/inverso of an avdog(s). It’s nice as you can sorta track/hold the pitch and stereo position with the on/off toggle or button. along with getting super fast modulation with inverso. The arcade manifold could be replaced with lfo again, inverso towards Zero Volts will be faster and etc, the arcade manifold is so good with PB and CL in general.

I’m thinking of picking up a Rollz-5 to go with my Tetrax and Deerhorn, but I’m worried that with the lack of CV control and fixed values, that it won’t be as deep as my other CL instruments. Anyone that has one care to talk about how deep it is, and their feelings on using their Rollz please let me know!

I was bored a bit earlier and pulled out my Rollz-5 that I build with a pair of CV Rollz, a Mixer, and some modifications… lol - Testing it with SLOPES (Swoop x6)

It is a fun instrument - I cannot compare it to the Plumbutter or the Coco because I unfortunately do not own either :frowning: - but they are definitely a goal of mine… lol

I personally wouldn’t worry about that too much, given the sheer number of patch points and stackbility of banana jacks. You could also cross patch with your other c-l gear too.

I would say that the nature of the tetrax and deerhorn is quite different from that of the Rollz, and as such the rollz might simply augment your relationship to those instruments, and probably take you in some new directions. You could also consider building some sort of mixer/attenuator combo for the Rolls which would give you a little more control/nuance.
Personally I’ve been thinking of building a Rollz, or at least a few of the component circuits, to add some hands-free rhythmic modulation sources for my Serge/Sidrax combo. I haven’t really seen enough of the features of the Rollz demonstrated to justify the investment, but I might just take the plunge and see where it takes me.

i’m a big fan of rollz-5 personally - i dont think its neccesarly less deep than plumbutter or a CL instrument, its just less easy to wrangle in. that being said there are plenty of mods you can add that improve this and if you’re commissioning someone for the build there are plenty of opportunities for adding switches or different CL circuits - a spikering with a particular XY resistor (X=10k Y=uempty) arrangement acts and sounds just like a gonzo gongs of PB

This Is a very good point, a mixer would be a very good addition.

You always seem to get the most alien sounds out of your equipment, its extremely impressive.

Heres a longer vid

Here are some wild sounds I got out of it as well yesterday!

Has anyone thought of notation for the Tocantes? I’m currently digging some chord progressions on the Karper and I’d love to capture those.

Would normal micro-tonal notation work? or do you mean a notation that would specifically denote which contacts to touch on the Tocante?

This is so interesting! I’m still debating whether to go Rollz-5 or Lorre Mill Double Knot. Haven’t quite made up my mind.

lol - if you can afford a double knot - get a double knot… you will have a lot more fun with it - THEN get a rollz-5 :stuck_out_tongue:

Me - im saving up for multiple gears i want -
But DIY a rollz-5 man - it is WAY more fun to be able to modify it rather than meng qi’s.
I would suggest either buying some paper circuit conversions - or having some made yourself with the tripping on wires conversions - or the gerbers I have available as well -
Its cheaper than Meng Qi’s and you can build your own mixer for it easily with some stripboard and the diagram I have posted in this thread that is based on Richard Brewsters

My electronic building skills are below zero, if it were possible to code them I would do much better at them. I have a fine motor skill issue, so small things are the absolute bane of my existence lol. Though I may have to force myself to start building some paper circuits.

Finally got around to drilling my front panel for the rollz 5. Still lots of wiring with the output mixer (bottom two rows) but it’s exciting to see it all together. Sides are avdog and gong mods.
