Hey folks,
I’m waiting around on a panel to do the wiring on a Fourses/Duber combo, and I’m wondering if (and how) the Ice-Stab and TransOb/speaker/studio out connections can be implemented with the Fourses project crucFX pcbs. Just sort of generally confused by the images of these in the Fyrall paperz. It doesn’t appear that the circuitry pictured below is included on the PCBs and so I’m looking for where the studio output, ice stab and eyeball nodes might be found. :eye: :ice_cube: :dagger: :loud_sound:

There is no Ice Stab on Paper version of Fourses.

You can breadboard additional studio outs and speaker amps

Or I made some paper circuits for the speaker amp with a pot.
You could technically use it as a studio out as well but it will not have the Ice Stab.

Ice Stab was only present in FOURCES/FYRALL and the early Din Datin Dudero

Aha ok, thanks for the quick reply.
It makes sense why its on the Fyrall page then! I think I was confused by looking at the image below and assuming that because Ice Stab is included on the OG PCB design for Fourses that anything not on the paper version (like Ice Stab) could be added on if one knew how and where to connect it.
Is there an advantage to adding more speaker/studio amps beyond having both line and speaker level outputs available? Just curious.

listening to moar nodes.
having speakers all around you.
noise.
many reasons.
lol

I made a box with 4 Speaker Preamps and 4 Studio Preamps w/ Ice Stab - giving the ability to listen to more nodes, play with more of the beast I guess you could say

You can see the use of the Ice Stab here too.

All these builds everyone is posting are great and really kicking me into gear, need to finally order a soldering iron and get to work…

A question for those who are experienced, what is the “bassiest” of pb’s more chaotic instruments. Musically, I’d like some chaotic low frequency drones, I love using the quantussy and gongs for doing stuff like this but would like to add some diversity.

I’ve heard stuff from fourses that kind of meets this criteria, a lot of lower frequency fundamental rumbling with some really unique upper harmonics.

I really like the stuff coming from this video in particular, especially the utility of bananas + steel wool provides a lot of patching diversity and chaos. but I am open to any ideas for what to build. Thanks!

His Fources Build is so top notch
Honestly jealous of that one lol.

In my exploration of these circuits, the most consistent byway of bass has been Nobsrine (at least in terms of droney bass), though most of the chaos tends to happen in the upper registers. My Fourses can get quite low, but introduces more rhythmic based content. All that said, I’ve found that more complex patching leads to more of both bass and chaotic texture, not to mention, complete unpredictability (AKA fun).

I haven’t been playing these instruments very long and I certainly don’t have the level of comfort that I would like, but I am really itching to get out and play in public. Who knows what’s on the horizon, but let’s pretend that there are no restrictions and the world is completely open for music anywhere. And let’s say my style is moody and ambient, a little noisy and sometimes you can tap your foot to it. I’m sure modular meet ups would be happy to have me, but the CL universe is radically different than eurorack. I have no plans on crossing over with drum machines or techno beats. Where do ambient musicians play live? is that the niche market that I should be pairing up with?

I’m open to ridicule and “duh” answers :grinning:, but would appreciate some brainstorming or shared experiences.

Sorry to hear that, you do have the format jumbler grounded to coco? Have you tried pushing the coco loop buttons to engage the loop, then try using the footswitch? Sometimes I need to change the on/off state of looper before using external switches work. Hope that helps!

i’ve been wondering the same…
I do not by any means consider myself a musician tho… lol
I dont know shit about music theory and all that…
I know nothing about tunings and yada yada yada - and honestly, i dont even care lolol

But the itch to have people hear what I can do with a PB, coco, and tetrax is also strong for me lolol.

My advice? Try to make friends with people in your local noise scene. Benefits of playing noise shows:

  1. Short sets
  2. Receptive audience
  3. You will probably hear some really cool music, even if you’re not into noise.

In my experience, most people absolutely don’t care about experimental synthesizer music in general setting. I really want to break into playing at art galleries and coffee shops, somewhere I can just fade into the background for a while and maybe intrigue a couple of people who might not have seen a modular synthesizer before. Your town might be different. I live in a developing college town and every year the void for art gets bigger, and the yuppies who go to farmers markets and stuff are more interested in hearing someone with a good voice sing a song they already know.

Basically I’m saying that the farther away from “the mainstream” you can get, the more likely you are to find someone who connects with what you’re doing.

Edit: some of this might come off a pretentious or something? But I’m simply speaking from my personal experience. I play out a lot and my main takeaways are that people seem to like my band more than they like my solo material, and if I’m on stage by myself it helps to have a drum machine to make people want to move. You can do whatever the fuck you want at a noise show and people are generally very supportive.

i’ll just dap everything @ParliamentLite posted. play some low effort, maximum benefit gigs. have fun, learn how to bring yr kit out and set it up and share your vision with respect.

i think in 2021-22 this is not gonna be easy, and I don’t know where you all are and what resources are available but get out there and see what’s happening.

a rather significant gig i was to have in October 2020 is finally locked in for May 2022 so gigs are happening, just find a way to get space on a Home Depot Noise Table.

I’m not sure what you mean exactly by this, but I like it! And think it could also be a great band name.

i mean one of these fine products that I’ve had the pleasure of gigging on (way finer than a wrecked card table).

adjustable height? my venue would be stacked with these.

(I actually do have this table and I love it to death. Cranks up and down and supports like 300 pounds).

Hey while I’m here, does anyone have experience powering multiple CL instruments from a Cioks DC7? Seems like it would work alright, but wanted to ask before I make the purchase.

I’ve done it in the past with pedal power supplies (I think with a DC5, maybe a voodoo labs) - you just have to use a polarity reversing cable as CL stuff is center positive vs the standard center negative of pedals.

That being said, I’ve always had good experiences daisy chaining CL stuff without any noise issues. So you could get a splitter or daisy chain cable and just use one output from the cioks (after the polarity reversal cable). Or daisy chain it from a wall wart to save some buckaroos.

wait, are you saying I could just use one power supply that I got from patch point and then attach this?
