@ Sidiblue I prefer thinking that’s not the only reason. In fact I would like to know, it’s a bit obsessive.

because it started as a low component count solar sounder

Im sure there are a couple other reasons tho lol.
I think the prototype was 8cm x 8cm.
The production is 9cm x 9cm. (roughly, lol)

There is a fixation at the moment for tiny devices. I don’t understand it. Hardware is becoming more and more important to musicians because of the hands-on approach to making music, if the devices become so small that you can’t actually play them, what’s the point? I think the Peterlin is just on the verge of being too small, but I can still comfortably play it. But it constantly slides away…

I think the size probably equates to lower cost of production, meaning easier to produce a bunch of these and offer at an “entry level” price that is sure to help ease people into the idea of buying the more complex instruments.

I like the size, and would love to see other simple circuit devices in this form factor - seems like a multi-waveform LFO, clock divider/multiplier and attenuverter utility block would be a no-brainer.

How much really more expensive would it be to make it a few cm bigger from both sides?

there is nothing stopping you from re-housing it…

I’m doubting I’ll do a better job than the original

Imagine racing with it! I’d happily pay double for that.

imagine a benjo with joysticks. oh my.

As Ciat-Lonbarde becomes a more commercially available brand, it makes a lot of sense to try and get some entry-level units at a relatively low price point so the curious can experiment without dropping thousands of dollars. I could see introducing a couple more devices that feel like a single plumbutter module sold as a standalone object.

They’re called paper circuits!

Not everyone wants to DIY, and I think from a business standpoint you’d want instruments that play as nicely with eurorack or other “normal” synths as the peterlin does. But yeah, maybe some “official” releases of updated paper circuit designs could happen.

Haha. Peter + “business standpoint”.

I want these LM3900 Paper circuits…

this would seem preposterous in some ways a few years ago, but since the PP linkup it feels like a totally different story. it wont surprise me at all to see PP start making ‘factory builds’ of any and all paper circuits in the years to come - clearly the market is there and they’re ready to capitalize on it.

speaking of which, does anyone know a ‘good entry point’ for getting into CL paper circuits and builds, maybe an easy one to start with or a good one for learning and/or branching from? I have virtually no experience but am going to try to slowly get into it. Planning to start a build trajectory with AllFlesh (lol), some waveform mag stuff, 4 or 5 NLC, and maybe some Moritz Klein tutorials before hopping into CL. But not sure if that’s too timid or too ambitious or fine.
