thanks, i might retire a couple of the tightest cables

This was my experience as well. I bought a somewhat older used PB2, and even though the original owner had a tech friend do some touch-ups here and there, jacks started coming unsoldered after a few months of my ownership (about a year after the tech did the touch-ups). I sold it as-is to someone capable of doing the repairs; he ended up re-doing every single jack because the soldering was “hysterically bad.”

I’m not sure how much the brand of cable comes into play if that’s just the quality of the soldering, but, fwiw, I did use Pomonas and found them to be a little tight compared to using them with Bugbrand or Serge.

Yes, the Pomona cables have a tight fit on my Serge. Haven’t had any issues with that, but that’s not made of wood. I don’t have any Ciat stuff but am planning on maybe picking up something in the future.

I can’t be certain I’ve tried the modular addict ones but the person that built my serge panels sent it with some cables that fit the description used to describe the modular addicts here (and I’ve never experienced them
elsewhere) and they were just wayyyyy too loose for my liking.

As much as you don’t need to always make a “full” connection with bananas, I still prefer the cable sit snug in the jack when fully pushed in! They were extremely wobbly

I certainly am, but life is very busy at the moment. Once i’ve had the chance to get stuck in (which includes having to rewire my studio as I just moved everything around and painted it) i’m hoping to start making video content again for the Sidraw and my BugBrand modules.

FWIW I bought a bunch of modular addict bananas and thought they were fine. Haven’t used a Pomona cable to compare though.

anyone wanna critique this possible banana cable order for use for coco and PB? sorry for all the posts in here about cables - but i just got a shipping conf email (!) and now i need to order these asap (i was expecting a month or so wait time!)

should i get 15x 12", 25x 24", and 25x 36" modular addict
OR
10x 10", 25x 20" and 25x 30" buchla cables

is this a good amount? clearly i still dont know whats my best option and any opinions would be useful! thanks

That seems like a lot of 36" and 24" cables, but it’s really contingent on if you’re arranging the instruments vertically or horizontally.

I arranged mine vertically and I never bought anything above 24" according to old Mouser receipts; I don’t think I ever ran into a situation where that came up short.

Also, keep in mind that you will be self-patching each instrument a lot, especially PB; the PB2 is 16- 1/2" x 9-1/4" according to a MW post (sounds right), so corner-to-corner is ~19"; that’d be a lot of slack if you run out of 12" cables (which you probably would).

Sorry, I don’t really have the right number for you, but that definitely sounds off to me.

thanks… still no idea what to do though.

does 30x 20" and 20x10" and 10x30" for buchla
or
25x12" and 35x 24" for modular addict seem better?

Are you arranging them vertically or horizontally? That’s pretty key.

still dont know! i havent played either before, i supposed im amenable to either way/whatever works best

what is the advantage of arranging them vertically? that sounds awful to me

The limited space I had to set up was the main factor, but also a vertical arrangement meant I didn’t need longer cables. To each their own, but it worked fine ergonomically for me.

I think the thought is laying them out horizontally, but placing one in front of the other, like two slices of bread, as opposed to keeping them horizontal, but placing them side-by-side as if you were trying to make the longest CL instrument ever.

i realize now that i’m not sure exactly what you mean by vertical arrangement. Mine looks like this and I am considering it horizontal

oh, i see what you mean. Like the extremely long combo instruments like the PB+Rolzer. Yeah, that would definitely require some lengthy cables.

Sorry if I was unclear, but the idea of a C-L sandwich gave me a laugh at least.

By vertical, I meant like what Walker posted and the below as horizontal. I asked for clarification because of all the longer cables listed.

makes total sense, i was picturing them hanging on a wall or something

Not even totally unheard of, there are these great pictures of paper circuit Deerhorns that Peter installed:

nice, yeah I’ve seen those! I think Peter has made a bunch of wall installations like that. but they don’t have banana jacks
