Hello everyone! I just got a 2nd hand Plumbutter v2 and I’m trying to get into it. I’m using headphones and I noticed that the stereo output on the back is quite low in volume. Is that something you experience too?

I know that with the shnth, the output is at line level and produces low volume when driving headphones. I ended up buying a headphone amp to use with my shnth. (I got the version of the altoids-box CMOY headphone amp that works with cheap, low-impedance headphones).

@hawksquill How goes it with the cocoquantus? I think I’m heading down that path myself. I have a couple questions regarding usage:

  1. how many patch cables does one need to get started with the coco? lengths? I have about 11 from other banana ventures, but wondering if I’d need more.
  2. I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer for this, so I’ll try with you – can the output drive a pair of mid-range headphones? I’d love to be able to use the cocoquantus standalone, without having to plug into my system. Though, I do have a headphone amp kit that I need to build.

Just tested mine, and the coco drives my audio Technica headphones just fine.

11 cables will do you just fine.
When I first got mine, it was a week before my cables showed up, and it was fun just fuxing around with the Loopers sans patching.

Thanks - that’s awesome to hear. I’m inching closer to the C-L ecosystem.

all good here! it’s an amazing instrument. constantly surprising but also one gets a sense of knowing it more and more and learning its idiosyncrasies…

so yes - happy here in c-l land so far

Come on in! The waters fine  only have the coco, but it plays super well with my euro set up. But sidrax is next on my list, guess I have to work to make that happen though…

Which AT headphones do you have? Do you have the Plumbutter too?

The m50x’s perfectly usable headphones
I do not have a plum butter, yet…

anyone got a recommendation for a skiff/self contained powered case for the full IFM collection?

I had a very intense dream last night about the Coco. It was all about how I really need one and should get one right away. Of course the soundtrack to the dream was magnificent.

When I had the IFM set, I had it in a Pittsburgh Modular Structure EP-96:

I like this case in general. The square layout puts modules closer to each other than a single row skiff, which for me at least encourages a wider variety of patch flows. With a full IFM set, this case also allows for 12hp of additional stuff, which IFM can benefit from (things like mixing, S&H, sequencing).

Well, curiosity got the best of me and I ordered a Tetrax today. Still going to keep an eye out for a Cocoquantus, but I think the tetrax will fill a more immediate need (and looks like a lot of fun).
Update: shipping confirmation email received today - won’t be long now!

Haha, the slippery slope!

Tet was my first CL instrument… Coco followed within about 6 months… It’s only the quiet sobbing of my traumatised bank account that makes me hold back from a Plum…

Welcome to Ciatland, it’s a wild ride!

Ha - thanks! Fortunately, I’m already considering the cocoquantus so I’m expecting a slide down the slope. Just waiting till birthday time (40!) and/or when a work annual bonus comes through.

Do you still have the Tetrax? How are you liking it? Granted it’s hard to find a lot of info about C-L stuff in general, but it seems like there’s a very minimal amount of info out there about just the Tetrax.

Rotary Tetrax is based on Ciat-Lonbarde Tetrax. 360º potentiometers enable new gestures, patch bay layout accepts banana shorting bars. With built-in reverb.

Tetrax has Harmonic Locking behavior with audio at “FM Input”, which works great with unlimited single direction rotations. I’ve embedded a Teensy 3.6 for 2 channels of audio to voice 1/3, tuned 660Hz / 880Hz for this track, with symmetry control over variable shape triangle waveform.

If you want to mod your Tetrax / Sidrax for droning, the potentiometer mod schematic is here : https://www.instagram.com/p/B8L9cD5Hi6_/

Happy early birthday!

The Tetrax presents itself as a superior machine for the creation of ruckus. I have had one for several years and do not think of selling it or otherwise disposing of it.

The Tetrax plays well with other banana gear or, with a simple adaptor, eurorack gear.

You will perhaps want to refer to this excellent “cheat sheet” which has helped me 10,000x:

Many people have forgotten, but the Tetrax had a precursor; the Tetrazzi, which machine contains much creakier but less versatile tones.

I celebrate all Ciat-Lonbarde inventions.

As an aside, I think my Plumbutter 2 has a defective MWRS section. I cannot for the life of me get the steam to go up the chimney.

Can anyone provide a super-simple patch example which gets the steam moving up the chimney?

You need to use 2 different triggers/ pulses on the green and purple input. Then enter data by pressing the red button. Make you sure you long press the red button.

Patch a brown 4-roll to the MWRS green. Press the red button (hold until a pulse is received from brown) and watch the lights go up the stack. Thats all you need! Now, patch the top MWRS orange to MWRS purple. This will make any pulse that makes it to the top orange cycle back to the bottom. They will keep cycling until you take them out with the white button.
