I certainly do still have the Tet and - I know you won’t want to hear this! - it really showed a whole new side once I plugged it into Coco…

Also seconding what @mrsoundboyking says about that cheat sheet - I know it’s scarcely more than a labelled-up photo but that’s pretty much Tet in its purest essence and all I’ve ever really needed/used with it. Trust me, I’m (not) a doctor!

I received a Plumbutter 2 today from Darrin and I’m absolutely in love (it’s the first ciat-lonbarde thing I ever touched). I don’t really understand the AVDogs at all (and have at best a rough concept of what everything else supposedly does), but not only does it sound beautiful, I’m getting really interesting rhythms out of this. From most of the demos I’ve seen online, it seemed like a very “abstract” rhythm generator, but it actually grooves in the weirdest ways.

Here’s what it had to say after unpacking:

Thank you so much for this little explanation. My Plumbutter 2 does not have a defective MWRS section and appears to function as it should. Hooray.

Ha - great to hear. I assume you mean Tetrax was able to take advantage of the modulation capabilities of the cocoquantus? If so, that’s a good point. I recently got a macumbista benjolin, it will be cool to see what can happen when interfacing the two, assuming they can shake hands on voltages. One more day till it’s due to arrive.

Sweet. I’ve had the Pulsar on my table and the pb in the drawer the last few weeks. This recording makes me miss the pb.

Is it normal that the red outputs on the man with the red steam don’t trigger the avdogs? The orange outputs trigger the avdogs just fine and the red outputs trigger everything else just fine, just red -> avdog doesn’t seem to work for me. Honestly, I’m also not quite sure what the difference between the orange and the red outputs on the man with the red steam is. Red seems to pulse on every bit of smoke while orange only pulses on change? Is that right? Or is it that orange just stays high as long as there’s smoke and the trigger inputs check for rising edge?

Also, day 2 is Feedback FM day:

Sounds so nice
Isn’t the red output just a short trigger?
I don’t have a PB but on my Rollz-5 AvDog needs longer pulses to sound.

yep normal

  • From the Tips and Tricks part of the plumbutter manual:

“what is the difference between the red and orange jacks in the Man with Red Steam? Also it seems that only the orange ones will trigger the avdogs (not the red), is this correct? The red jacks are pulse outputs, suitable for jerking brown geometries or triggering gongs. The orange jacks are more like square waveforms that reflect the state of the sequencer at that point. Since AVDog is triggered by slow resonances, it will respond better to the orange jacks because they have more “meat” on them, when on, rather than being a quick pulse.”

just finished this box, lil sid, grassi, phosphate aluminum, and ultrasound filters, originally had two ultrasound boards but the pots lit on fire and I’m too lazy to troubleshoot atm
been having fun sending it through a talkbox

so it seems peter is gearing up to do a production stuber? anyone play one of these before? how does it compare to other c-l instruments?

There are clips of the original Stuber here and the Din Datin Dudero/Ovalsynth was demoed by Peter and his son in the second half of this video.

So split the difference and add a Rungler? My guess is that it’ll be kinda like a Blippoo Box, but even weirder.

Can’t come soon enough for me!

does it seem like wingpinger is related to stuber?

i would also like to know this

Meng Qi has stated that ciat lonbarde, lorre mill, and Rob Hordijk’s benjolin are all inspirations for his work, especially with the wing pinger. I’m not sure if the connection goes deeper, but maybe we find out one of these days.

yeah - i read this too. just generally interested in possible overlap between stuber and wing pinger bc they’re my two most anticipated productions

Does anyone have experience / audio samples of the IFM Mocante + Mr. Grassi System?

Hey! I’ve owned the IFM, mr grassi, system for a while. I just recently sold a few modules, but overall have really enjoyed it. Here’s a link to a recording I made:

I think this recording also involved some Norns, otis stuff… so it’s not a “pure” IFM thing.

I’d say the mocante, mr grassi keyboard is a really important addition to the IFM kit. The way it manipulates a patch can be really interesting.

Edit: also I believe this was with those too.

Speaking of stubers, this lovely thingy was part of the recent exhibit that Pete did at Rhizome in DC. Pretty sure its a one of a kind type of assemblage- I recognize the Stuber in the center but I’m wondering if anyone intuits what the other circuits might be under the hood, or maybe has seen it before? The only info next to it was a little sign that said please don’t change the alligator patch. Maybe an old-style fourses/fyrall combo?.. so many nodes! It made very nice diverse sounds, I shot a vid but its too long to post here, and the sound is confusing because the space was filled with instruments all going at the same time

still craving more info on the stuber. in my head it seems like it’s the DDD replacing fyrall/srine with resonant filter(s) and a rungler matrix.
