this is true of (I believe???) all instruments since the sleeve of a ts/trs cable carries ground.

Yeah I guess you are right. Johnson banana jacks appear to be about a dollar each, the 8th inches from switchcraft seem to be about 2$, guitar pedal enclosures like that run about 20$, so I’d say the cost in total shouldn’t be more than 50$, less if it’s bought in bulk. I suppose you could make the argument that the soldering and drilling is worth 50$ so it’s not all that bad. I’ll stick to my 15$ tayda boxes for now though, wobbly jacks and such aren’t an issue for me at the moment.

Will did admit it was a “hacky” way of doing. Buy I guess whatever works. . .

Luckily my Double Knot 2 has a ground jack so this shouldn’t be a problem!

This thread is getting DOUBLE amazing!

I just ordered the Lorre Mill duo so all this information is great to know :black_heart:

I also just received my Stuber. It took 3 patch cables for my jaw to hit the floor. Incredible. Who knew patching without having any idea what anything does could be so fun? :joy:

Here’s patch 02 (if anyone’s curious :grimacing:):

Hey everyone

I just wanted to pop in quick and say that episode 02 of my Ciat-Lonbarde podcast has just been released. It’s a great conversation with Noctopolis who has become nothing short of a master on Peter’s instruments!

I don’t want to keep derailing this amazing thread, so going forward I’ll make a separate topic strictly for the pod.

Thanks to everyone that listened to episode 01 and I hope y’all enjoy episode 2.

(oh and it’s on Spotify, iTunes etc. now)

to close the loop on one of my pb questions, here’s peter b’s comment:

Hi, you can patch a yellow to brown but i don’t think it will do much…

it’s been a few days but wanted to explicitly express thanks for this detailed reply! cleared up a bunch of my immediate questions and some that popped up as i was building ~

(it also just occured to me i bought a set of your rollz-5 boards off of reverb, including one of your power boards. didn’t put two and two together until now :man_facepalming:)

still waiting on some parts to truly finish things up, but i’ve connected all the boards together and quickly thrown them in a Maths box, and once i remembered to add a ground jack for patching with plumbutter, it’s been working with great success so far!

decided to be bold and throw some 3300pf caps on the 6-roll, which pleasantly surprised me in how nicely it plays with the ultrasounds on plumbutter, and self-patching with connection to the other, slower rollz for weird, sputtering rhythmic bursts. they all work great tho and am kinda feeling like it’s helping my plumbutter patching skills level up a bit tbh

Just to update. Successfully finished the nobsrine build today. Those missing 10M resistors were super easy to incorporate. For the G switches I just used some SPST toggles I had to hand and they work fine. Thanks for the help.

you can get some stepped pitches by stacking some oranges (rollz and /or the orange mwtrs) into the purple gong inputs.

probably not the most interesting patch, but here’s a quick sound example. while the q is lower you get a sort of tuned block/drum sound, and something more like an arp when you turn it up.

that sounds awesome, i’m definitely trying this later today!

out of curiosity… you’re able to stack more than two bananas? maybe i haven’t been patching the “right” things but i tend to lose a lot of signal after three bananas.

EDIT - forget lunch before work! decided to try this out now. not quite getting the results you got but definitely getting some more stepped notes from this! also managed to get good results from 3-4 stacked bananas. i think often i was stacking pulses? maybe? and things were getting lost. i don’t really remember! gonna keep at this. thanks!

Some heavy Tetrax action there (if you can sit through all that  ). I’m the one in the hat, obviously.

Tetrax is sent through the Doepfer Wasp filter for some additional bite, and sometimes its main pitch input (the leftmost grey one) is modulated by Korg SQ1 for some expressive polyphonic sequencing.

you lose signal if you are multing one out to many ins, but this is multiple outs to one in  so it’s not a problem, though mixing in browns or reds might throw things off. play around with the fm attenuator on the gongs to set the “width” of the steps! so fun!
