so i “stole” your patch and tried to add to it -

stepped bass tones from gongues! awesome. this is a really fun place to start a patch too! thanks again for the advice.

Is there any known Mods for Old Mr Grassi?

Took a stab at the NJM2073 version - Shortened it a bit to make it fit between rails, and moved some resistors and the + and *'s around to bring the pairs closer to one another.
Someone messaged me and requested that I work on Old Mr Grassi and this is what I came up with

I had to add touch points/nodes on the output caps on mine (2 builds) to get a decent output level, but it was the lm386 version.
Someone on the ciat lonbarde cool kids group posted a build with added CV outputs which could be really nice with euro, wanted to look into it but never got back to it.
Also imho this circuit begs to be touched, you can get really subtle timbral changes applying pressure on the nodes, so maybe you could integrate some larger touch points on the panel (like the ifm euro module) ?

Having just picked up a Bugbrand PT Delay I thought it might be interesting to experiment with the Ciat-Lonbarde Tetrax and see what might result. I hope this is the right place to share such little experiments. It’s clear that so much can emerge from just these two in combination.

How’s about this?

I’ll add a surface pad near each node as well - then the pads can be attached to the panel.
Easiest way I can think of without adding headers

i asked this over in the eurorack learning thread but i think it got buried and lost, so i’ll ask (yet another question!) here.

does anyone have experience with the meng qi brass module? i’ve been thinking about getting the diy kit. you can install diodes that permanently block negative voltage spikes (as opposed to being able to turn them off with the surface switches. just seems safer that way), but i was wondering - does this completely block ALL voltage coming through to euro? or just the amount that would be harmful?

my biggest use of it, i think, would be to let the rollz brown jacks trigger rhythmic events in euro - but if it blocks out all of their signal, surely this wouldn’t work out. does anyone know?

Pondering either a tetrax or sidrax to go along with my coco + plumbutter combo. The main appeal being the piezo barres for modulation (orange outputs). I think the sound of the sidrax is more appealing, but I’m wondering a few things:

  1. Would the range of one be better than the other in terms of modulation from the red output?
  2. Do they both have triangle outs from the red jacks or is that a typo?
  3. I’ve read that the red outputs go into ‘ultrasound’? Has anyone measured the range of the sliders?

  1. I’m not certain of this but I’d imagine it’s easier to get lower audio rate with the Tetrax. You’d also get a little more control over the “shape” of your modulation with the tetrax, though the pitch will also be a factor in shape! I sold my Tetrax and kept Sid and would be happy to try anything you wish to know with the Sid :black_heart:

  2. This has me second guessing the first part I typed :joy: I would assume that only the Sid has direct triangle outs and that the Tet would be based on the actual wave shape you set up. Glad I’m posting though because I guess I’d love to know the answer to this too! I’ve always just assumed that the red jacks were just direct oscillator outs WITHOUT the response of the barres.

  3. I haven’t measured but I can confidently say range definitely goes high enough to be hardly audible.

Yep it’s looking good!
I planned on making touchplates for my Mr Grassi, it reminds me to get back to it

The reds on tetrax are more like saw waves. First tuning knob sets the rise time and second the fall time, though on the scope it always looks like a saw and never gets close to a triangle wave. (On the scope, It seems like the fall slope stays the same while the reset period of the falling portion of the wave gets shorter.)

The sidrax reds are triangles.

With both you can add in chaos or fm for additional shapes.

i use sid primarily for modulation- i’m one of those people who doesn’t really gel with the barres. i love and respect the design a lot, i’m just a bit twitchy and after owning it for a year still can’t get results i’m totally happy with. in an ideal world there could be an AD envelope expander or something (maybe you can make one @Justmat ;)) and it would be perfect.

for modulation though in conjunction with pb and coco it’s a dream. i love patching up big soups with all three and making micro adjustments with the sliders and master chaos/pitch with sid. really a dream for textures.

i’d recommend sid over tet purely on the basis of more modulation options/sliders

That’s exactly why I kept my Sid vs Tet! And self FM’ing each barre can KIND of get one into the Tet/Saw like territory.

Too “twitchy” seems like a pretty common complaint and I’ve never been able to dial in the sensitivity justtttt right. I have found that some overdrive or compression can help though :+1:

anyone in here go from having pb/coco to having a full IFM set? i am not a euro guy but i admit i am really intrigued by the idea of getting the full IFM “system” to experience it on those terms and check out what peters approach to euro is all about.

i guess what i’m really looking for is general thoughts about the full IFM system and how it compares to/complements standalone c-l kit.

Modulargrid is showing all the IFM modules as discontinued. Is this true?

No, they are available as a set on synth mall.

Yeah best to buy direct so Peter gets paid!

I had a dunst a few years ago and the experience of that module wasn’t really comparable to using the ciat lonbarde instruments. It didn’t really grab me and it feels like a tiny part of what I get with the grey out on the pb, for example.

The IFM stuff seems to be more focused on the noisier and chaotic side of things. I think there are a handful of people here who have had the complete set though, so I’ll let them weigh in.

I have, I think, one of all of them (grassi not presently in my skiff though). I’m super into the Fourses/Denum, like the Swoop/Sprott, and think the Dunst is ok. The Grassi is badass, but I don’t need that much space devoted to interface stuff in my skiff.

I would totally go with two Fourses and two Denums. I think the Swoops are good and very Peter-esque, I just like being able to retrigger functions, and the swoop waits until the cycle is done before retriggering.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Semi-related (I’m trying to create a bit of space to be able to fit more IFM in there), has anyone of you avid ciat-DIYers made any 1U implementations of Peter circuits? There’s all those charms or other interesting tidbits that would be fantastic to explore in a smaller format. I’m wanting to add a 1U row to my skiff here to mount the expert-sleepers stuff sideways, and that would then leave me around 18hp of 1U space to fill. I can always stuff some untility stuff in there, but would be nice to add something a bit more exciting.

I had the full set a few months ago, but panic-sold it because of a combination of being unemployed and the choice paralysis of Eurorack.

On that second part, I didn’t really feel the IFM set was an entirely complete system- key omissions would be S&H, VCA’s for CV (the Denum/Dunst ones are audio only iirc), and I personally didn’t like not having an envelope that would sustain (Swoop is just A/D). There were a couple of other things I’d want but could’ve lived without (logic, maybe a wavefolder, a filter that wasn’t batshit, etc).

However, since I’m back to work, I’ve been interested in picking another IFM set to pair with the Make Noise Tape and Microsound Machine, which should mostly round off what I felt what was lacking last time. What I liked about the IFM was that I never vibed with the hard-panned audio and more complex internal set-up of much of the mainline C-L stuff, but loved the timbre etc otherwise. Ultimately, I guess it’s kinda Buchla (C-L) vs Serge (IFM) and I generally prefer the latter.

As for combining the two, here’s an IFM/CQ patch that turned out ok. I don’t think there’s too much cross patching from what I can tell.
