It should also be said that it’s fine to post about an album release without much added context, that’s what the latest tracks&videos thread is there for.
The reasoning behind the “providing context” rule mentioned above is that it’s not as useful and interesting to have threads where somebody only posts a link or an embed to an album. Threads are here for discussion and sharing or ideas/thoughts. An album without much added context does not give as much to discuss about and does not give much insight into the process, ideas and “making of” of the album.
This is not to say that an album without added context can’t result in an intreresting discussion sometimes, but it’s less likely. Also I think we all want to avoid becoming a place where people just “drop by” to post about their latest release.
This said, the native language topic is indeed an interesting one. We all default to English because it’s the most widely spread foreign language for people coming from non-English speaking countries, but it’s definitely a status quo worth challenging and approaching in a critical way.
I was just thinking about this while watching this documentary film about an orchestra conductors competiton the other day. There were people from over 14 countries, the jury was speaking German, Italian and English, and the languages used to communicate were very different and not always English, since some people were better in German or Italian than English as a second language (maybe because of studies abroad).
I guess this might be a topic by itself though.
