Is there a way to tell the walnut non varibrite 256’s from varibrite 256’s based on sight alone?

normally yes. there is a transition edition which has 4-step variable brightness and looks very similar to a non VB. it has a solid-block milled enclosure though.

Thank you. That pretty much answers my question. There is a 256 on eBay right now and the seller didn’t know which version it was. Turns out it’s a series 256 (2007-2010). So therefore, not varibrite.
