i’d suggest testing with the monome package within max. be sure to look for errors in the max window. there is a test_grid patch.

Ah ha! Thank you! Still curious why there aren’t video tutorials on getting started with MLR or Re:Mix but there’s plenty of info here to read up on.

should i do something here?

Hi, just received a Ansible and want to update firmware. I was about to order a usb a to a cable from Amazon, but noticed the firmware update instructions say I should not get a “transfer” cable and I’m a little confused. Should the difference be obvious or will any 3.0/backward compatible cable work? Thanks!

Some discussion here. A data transfer cable will have a big ol’ Mysterious Nodule in the middle containing some circuitry for letting two USB hosts talk to each other without letting them both try to supply power to each other. But you want a plain ol’ USB A/A cable without this circuit.

ansibles all ship with the USB A-A cable.

there is an ordering part number and link on the update page: https://monome.org/docs/modular/update/

midi is not related.

open a terminal and type

ls /dev/tty.usb*

and paste the output here. also, post a photo of the monome unit as i’d like to ensure it’s actually a 40h.

thaNKS FOR YOUR HELP

ok, the problem is (i think) the serial number. it shouldn’t have an underscore— i don’t recall the symptom. can you take a photo of the grid?

my suggestion is to download this: http://dangerousprototypes.com/blog/2010/01/27/pirate-rename-get-a-nicely-named-serial-device/

you’ll need to turn off the apple driver first:

sudo kextunload -bundle-id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

then “read” the usb data. change the underscore to a zero.

then turn the driver back on:

sudo kextload -bundle-id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

and maybe reboot

it WORKS!!!
thanks then!!
greetings

Really silly question:
Ansible- red stripe up?

Yes that’s correct. I had the same question when I installed my Ansible a week or so ago. The keyed connector only goes one way.

Ableton Live having an on and off relationship with my grid. Often have just “none” in the device list for Terms or Mark Eats Clips.

Anything I might improve?

sounds like serialosc.maxpat isn’t doing a great job communicating with serialosc. what OS version are you on?

Browsing the above I just installed FTDIUSBSerialDriver_v2_4_2 seconds ago

Hello all,

recently i was gifted an old grids64. Ive decided to start from the “beginning” and got mlr up and running on max 8. I can get it to run and make noise, and have dug through all the links, but i cant for the life of me figure out how to actually “play” mlr on a 64.

beyond trigger samples in various groups and getting them to change direction im at a loss. Ive read the readmes, and the grids docs page. Can anyone get me on the path?

also, should i even bother with mlr, or is mlrv better?

There’s a post here that shows how MLR is laid out on a 64 grid, with a corresponding mlr64 script. Hopefully that’s helpful?

I want to point out that mlr on the norns has alot of differences to the max version of mlr. (and its been awhile since I used max mlr)

super helpful, thanks.

so on this page it says"MODE changes the lower section of the grid, described below." which I assume means one button is a Mode change function. Yet i dont see that labeled anywhere.

@noiserock i cant afford a norns these days, but hope to maybe build a rPi version if I can ever get that figured out.
