Moog Sirin

Maybe they are going to this?

source was mentioned and got me.

sure will be missing the nicest feeling knob (encoder) ive ever encountered. i obviously get why you couldn’t put a weighted w/bearing kinda feeling knob on most things but… to anyone who hasn’t touched an old source, i really have to urge checking one out some time as it is an tactile experience unlike other instruments in its tribe with superb arpeg and freakiest of sequencers built in.

I made it over to the Moog pop-up today with a half-developed plan to snag a Sirin.

it sounds plenty pretty, sonorous and bright. the bird namesake is well-chosen. was able to get to grips with some of the shortcuts (switching lfo shape) without any issue.

however, I also spent a little time playing with the grandmother, which sounded lovely and very raw. between the two, felt the grandmother was my clear preference.

I left the pop-up with the same experience. The Sirin was nice, but I was able to get some really interesting stuff going on the grandmother.

Musical arbitrage to attempt. Sell OP-1, buy Sirin, record a lot of Sirin, sell Sirin, buy OP-1 when they’re back on the shelves. Edit: End up with both OP-1 and Sirin…

Oh, are they indeed going to be produced again? Thought they were discontinued.

no, they just stopped production while updating the hardware: https://www.facebook.com/teenageengineering/photos/a.10150111818101550/10156850413136550/

I ordered one of these without thinking too hard about it. I had been on the verge of picking up a Minitaur for quite some time after have a great time making basslines on one in a friend’s studio last November. The idea of a Minitaur with extended range is obviously very appealing. Am hoping that the lower end does indeed still sound similar to a Minitaur, but I’ll also be glad to have the extra versatility.

My first Moog! I do also want a Grandmother quite a lot. There’s something about the raw sound of those saw waves that really gets me excited.

same, -first moog, and a rare “new” purchase for me.
if i don’t gel with it, resale will be just fine.

anyone get a shipping update? this is why i prefer to deal with craigslist, the waiting is killing me.

I’m glad these are going to be hard to get hold of as I don’t need one… but it sure is beautiful to look at!

I LOVE the design on this. Colourful and playful without being garish or tacky.

I hope Moog keep with this design aesthetic (the new Moog demo room doing the rounds on Youtube also looks fantastic).

This wonderful soul posted a video providing a thorough comparison of the Sirin and the Minitaur, for anyone else interested. I had plans to get a Minitaur later this year, but couldn’t pass up the Sirin when it was announced. Seeing the minimal (and fine to me) difference on the low end, I’m still happy with my choice.

Sirin sounds good. It makes a nice point that I should play with glide more. Much fun.

bless this person. hoping for more no-nonsense/great sounding demos from them!
