Thank you thats really helpful. So for stereo pads, it may make more sense to send them out as mono and then just use stereo effects in the DAW to make them bigger again. I have no problem with mono. It also means I can run stuff through my MMF filter which I am quite fond of.

I decided Maths actually makes the most sense. I see small builds with Pams, Maths and a Morphagene. This allows me to also keep my BIA in the case as well. I am interested in how I can modulate the BIA with Maths, but also get it to trigger from the MG when I use them together. I could get some cool layered sounds that way.

Also I have room for a 1u Sloth, so I got that too. A slow 15-20 second LFO could really be cool with the MG and BIA.

This could be a quite powerful build once I get a good grasp on it.

If you’re curious about the math’s and wanna get some ideas of the WILD stuff that could work well with the morphagene, here’s an illustrated guide of all kinds of maths self modultaion. Add this to the trigs from the Pams and you’re in some pretty heady spaces:

This is amazing, thank you! Huge help, because I know it will take me a lot of time to learn this module.

I’ve made it maybe… 3 pages in…? I just get distracted and go down the rabbit hole. Can’t say I’ve gotten to the point of making releasable material, but hot damn has it bee the most absolute pleasure. Its been almost dizzying to mult out the maths product to time synced mimeophon and morphagene. But yeah, this combo feels like there’s little to consider a ā€œRock Bottomā€ of understanding it all. You’ll probably always find ways to be surprised.

I have the same problem sometimes.
I solve by putting the SD inside the morphagene and creating a new reel, when I reinsert it inside the PC I can write and copy.
Let me know if it worked for you!

Current iteration of morphagene palette. Portable with battery, big rack above is a ā€œwe’re here if you need us sweetieā€ situation

Just as fun for micro sound sampling as it is for drum sequencing

This is beautiful. Is the Volca FM running during the video or the sound is coming from the morphagene strictly?

Not Joseph, but the play button is lit on all Volcas if the sequencer is running and the current step is shown with the LED’s below the keys. So, everything is pre-recorded.

Morphagene as washing machine:

  • receive 90 second piano noodle from friend
  • dump into morphagene, splice/mangle
  • record loop to 4 tracks on op-1
  • play loop back thru portastudio, using marantz cassette player as echo
  • add space echo send
  • record 4 tracks with different echo combinations to endless cassette
  • record loop back into morphagene

I can’t get over how funny it is to combine skeuomorphs with their mothers

I want to release something that shows the taxonomy of this sample being washed to dust

I would love to hear this! It sounds like it could easily get out of hand, and I’d be so curious to know the results and see how you manage so much movement and mangling to retain a sense of normalcy or something to follow with the ear… or if not, how the chaos ensues!

Here’s a bit!

This is cool! I really should use the op-1 tape more for this purpose!

Just got mine and made some reels with the very handy free web tool. Do you all tend to put a bunch of short sounds like chord stabs or vocals in one reel? Thats what I just did - will see how it goes.

reels can be up to almost 3 minutes long, i guess you’ll arrive at some grouping that makes sense to you. give it some time, it really depends on how you navigate your own ideas.

This is a silly question but I wanted to ask before I order - I have 2 line level cables coming out of my sound interface, and they are 1/4. Will these adapters work for them?

That plug is for stereo connections and may or may not work depending on the details of the jacks on each end. Try the one listed at the bottom of that one for mono:

Thank you, I glazed right past that mono one. Glad I posted, I suspected stereo was not the optimal way to go.

Also, any of you ever turn yours on and the lights are all just a solid light purple color? I power cycled again and all was good, but I was not sure what that color code meant. Dont see anything on that in the manual.

The Morphagene/DLD are the center of my system and I was looking for a way to toggle recording on/off from a pedal/foot switch. I don’t have any room in my rack for a module so I needed something entirely external.

I came across this little pedal/switch from JHS:

A very simple momentary mute switch. With a couple 1/4" to 3.5mm cables, I patch 5V from a 16n (a maths would work too) into the input and patch the output into the REC Gate Input and it works!

No-hands recording for the Morphagene. A little pricey for what it does but I couldn’t find anything else as simple/small. This same setup should work well with any module that you want to gate with your foot.

if you wanted you could attach a battery to a patch cable and run that through the pedal to save a 16n slider (also less wires)!

planar 2’s gate out works like a charm…
