Greetings :vulcan_salute:

I’m curious if anyone has any experience with motion activated midi signals? I’ve seen individuals use video to midi, but I have something a bit simpler in mind.

I have a concept for an installation in a pedestrian tunnel that has natural reverb. I want to install some triggers that would be activated by someone walking in front of it - and then for that to trigger a midi note.

Would anyone be able to pour me in the right direction for sensors?

Thank you

i’d probably try an IR break-beam sensor, extremely cheap and simple

… mm, actually looks like these tiny ones won’t cut it at the range you need, but that’s just a question of cost and power really.

… here’s a project where someone assembles a longer-range system from separate IR receiver and emitter (+reflector), with an arduino controlling beam modulation and hysteresis:

The tunnel width is under 6 feet - so probably the ones with the 150cm range would work.

Thanks for the help!

This would give you 10m and uses 5V. It’s very directional so It’s trickier to align but should have less false positives
