Hi all! My new album Muscle Memory “knots together tenderness and corrosion to surround contortions of the human voice.” My mom called it “sploshy.”
After ~5 years of messing around with VCV Rack, I recorded some of the dancier and/or glitchier patches and arranged them into proper songs. The most gratifying part was discovering unintentional themes in the sounds I’d dwelled longer on—lots of vocal choppage, major key feels but caustic sounds, something polymetric, and a granular mix of pretty much everything.
I hope you’ll give a listen and let me know what you think!
Always looking to listen to things with this vibe—thanks for sharing!
I love this, especially the “bops” at the end. They made me smile
If you feel like sharing a little more, I’d love to know any hints about the lovely distorted chimes in Water Tables about 1:30 in. The distortion has exactly the right amount of grit at the bottom; it’s a sound I’m often chasing more than succeeding at finding.
Garageband’s stock “Classic Electric Piano” w/ stock “pedalboard” distortion→rotary cabinet→tremolo→tape delay (for this whole album, I added one or two elements in the DAW later)
