Thanks! I like the fractilization link… Zooming into the mandelbrot…

Used archive coz it embeds well here. Gonna stop paying for soundcloud so only space for short tracks. Might go back to burner accounts, got 13 accounts on sc though, gmail has stopped giving me aliases!

This is the description of my piece posted above.
I had a Jam with my mate Manny (https://soundcloud.com/alayasounds) on Sunday night, me on Sax and FX, him on modular synth and Elektron keys. On Monday between meetings and work I edited this together from the raw material of our first jam. Stretched/looped a long sax note to make the drone then found another bit of sax that was percussive and looped that and had it fading up then added a section of the synths. Automated some filters on the drone so it faded away and then found another bit of sax and synth that ended it well.

Wow, we ended up with 49 tracks in this week’s project. I need to read back through this thread to make sure I caught everything discussed. Several new-to-Junto folks asked (here and elsewhere) about how a track gets added to the official soundcloud.com/disquiet playlist. In the short term: I’m using SoundCloud search for the given project’s tag (e.g., “disquiet0240”), and I’m heart-ing each track after I add it to the list so when I look back at the search it’s evident to me what has and hasn’t been added.

PS: That’s 49 tracks, not counting the ones posted places other than SoundCloud.

Hmmm. I think I see an immediate problem with using liiiiiiines to post projects - replies and comments to a particular piece/post aren’t threaded, so it get’s really hard to see what relates to what. Or am I missing something?

I think it’s advisable to comment in many cases on the actual track’s page, especially on SoundCloud, which has commenting. We’ll sort it out as we work through trying out the platform.

If anyone’s desperate to still add to groups (ie me!) You can still use third party apps like my melody box or unfollowspy.com

I’ve got the sc site cached on my phone browser still so I can add to groups that way too.

Isn’t this place slow? Something wrong when connecting to soundcloud… freezes my firefox each time. Not fun.

One note about groups. If I understand the correspondence correctly that I’ve had with SoundCloud, as of the 22nd they aren’t merely being turned off completely, the groups are actually going away. The current soundcloud.com/groups/disquiet-junto/ will yield, in other words, a null return. Again, that’s if I understood the communication I’ve received correctly.

you’re right

it takes some getting used to

comments are threaded. just just need to use the correct reply button. to start a thread you reply to the individual post (the reply button within the message you want to reply to). to reply to the whole topic, ie, reply to the original post, use the blue reply button at the bottom of the list of posts.

the interface updates and you can then click to see threaded replies to a comment. and also floating comments show an “in reply to” icon which will expand the original comment.

i honestly think comments are best here, provided that the “reply” functionality is used correctly. the UI is likely not sufficiently clear.

Gotcha. That makes sense to me. Thanks.

quote reply by highlighting the text to be quoted … can be handy too!

I don’t see my track there so possibly I am posting it incorrectly?

https://soundcloud.com/blank_flag/slowed2-wave-diquiet-0240

A typo is the issue. The title says “diquiet 0240” but there should be an “s” in “disquiet” and no space before the 0240. Otherwise the search return doesn’t bring it up. I’ll add now, and you can just fix the title whenever. Thanks.

Ah ok, i just fixed the title and the url as well. Thank you for catching that!

Here’s what I did to make this: I started with a snippet of sound I had recorded a few weeks ago. (If I recall correctly, it was a custom Aalto patch being driven by MIDI from some Reaktor 6 blocks.) I opened it in Audacity and used the Paulstretch effect twice (with default settings), resulting in a total stretch factor of 400. I opened the result in Reaper and used ReaEQ to tame some ringing resonances. Then I put that result into Glitchmachines’ Cataract and tweaked settings until I got a rhythmic sound I liked. I duplicated that result and used ReaFir’s Subtract mode on both instances (with two different settings), thereby restricting one instance to frequencies in the 3K to 12K range, and the other to frequencies in the 100 to 400 range. These were layered with the original stretched and EQed audio and slowly faded in.
